This op-ed, supposedly by Bill Keller, about the calls for a financial blockade of the Times is a fake, as is this press release from PayPal. It was such a good fake that the person running Keller’s Twitter feed apparently re-tweeted a tweet linking to it (picture here). It’s a pitch-perfect imitation of Keller’s style and general standoffish view of Wikileaks, and it skewers his blind spot about them by discussing a State Department effort to shut down the Times by having payment services stop taking payments for them.

@lamh35: Romney is doing a very jesuitical parsing of that whole no political criticism beyond the water’s edge thing.

The word you want is ostensibly or purportedly, not supposedly.

@lamh35:
Rmoney will be outsourcing foreign policy to Israel. He also said he’d outsource choosing his cabinet to McKinsey, and when it all goes pear shaped he can retroactively retire from being president. Easy peasy!

@lamh35:
Fuck Bibi. And fuck Rmoney. I don’t know a single American Jew that doesn’t despise both of them.

Warning- at the top of the spoof Times page is an ad for a program called MacKeeper that is supposed to speed up your mac.
Wanting a faster Mac I downloaded it but at the last minute thought, “duh… is a spoof page really safe?”
So I googled MacKeeper.
Seems it is malware, a Trojan horse.
Maybe should put a warning next to the link.

@lamh35:
Seeing Bibi and Mitt standing there so happily together is truly frightening. Just thinking of the possibilities makes me want to donate to the Obama campaign immediately.

@Josie: Do it, sister!
Josie
@SiubhanDuinne: Just did!

@lamh35: Rmoney’s been looking 75 overseas; he usually looks younger than his 65.

@Josie: Happily? Romney looks like Bibi’s assistant in that photo. “Hey, Mitt: go get me a coffee, wouldja? Cream, two sugars. That’s a good fella.” How does anyone think he comes off as a world leader there, especially given the things he’s said about following Bibi wherever he goes?
Josie
@Citizen_X: The picture I saw first was the one on the front page of TPM, in which they looked like long lost pals.

I’m somewhat surprised the Times doesn’t own every permutation of their domain name.

@Josie
They’ve been pals since the 70s.

@the Conster: You forgot the part where he has the Board of Directors raise the President’s salary to $1B/yr (because, he says, “the President of the United States needs to be seen making more money than the CEO of Apple!”).

Good advice dad taught me as a youngster.
If it looks too good to be true, IT IS.
He was not the first to learn of this of course but he has been proven correct far more often than not.
He also had this sign on his toolbox:
Be sure to put brain in gear before opening mouth.

That’s amazing. I would have been fooled.
