I feel like everything I write today is rambling and incoherent, more so than usual, so I am just going to sit back and watch the idiot box until Captain Kirk hangs out with Shawn and Guster tonight on Psych.

I have to admit, I was a bit confused about the point you were trying to make in your last post. But kudos for self-awareness.

Speaking of Captain Kirk, here in Wisconsin (where Scott Walker’s anti-recall ads are burning through Koch Cash faster than a meth-addled honeymooner in Vegas), William Shattner (“Huh, huh, he said ‘Shat’”) is doing ads for the motorcycle tort kings, Hupy and Abramson. Not to be confused with the liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court Judge, Shirley Abrahamson. And now you know some trivia about Wisconsin.

You don’t write incoherent posts; one of the front-pagers does, though, and all too often. One thing that’s real convenient about gawker is that the post titles try to be both snarky and descriptive. That would be a big help here for a couple of people. Dropping the old paintings would help save space, especially when those images have little to nothing to do with the text content. I’m not saying inverted triangles or anything like that. Just that it would be nice to be able to drop in quickly a few times a day, like I do, and be able to get sense what was going on. I think it’s almost axiomatic that the more page views a blog gets, the more difficult it is to stay sharp and focussed. Look at NoMoreMisterNiceBlog: from sharp comments to his own page to a distracted mess. He should go back to commenting to regain his mojo. Now… if only I could do what I am asking you for….

The Republicans Senators are willing to extend the payroll tax and have offered a way to pay for it

Republicans reject any tax increases and offered their alternative later Wednesday, calling for a freeze of federal salaries, reducing the federal workforce and preventing millionaires from getting food stamps and unemployment benefits.

Just to show the Americans folks that they are worried about inequity in income, if a millionaire is laid off he can’t get food stamps or unemployment.

Hey Yuts, you see we got us a pirate on the Palouse? This is gonna be weird. Though the student section full of pirate costumes should prove to be entertaining, along with the offense. Pac 12 football is turning into a video game league. First team to 50 points wins.

Dick Durban is right now on my tv saying that Republicans are saying that people who make $750,000 or more should not be entitled to food stamp benefits. Are these people fucking serious? These people stand there in front of cameras and seriously suggest that people making $750,000 would a) need food stamps and b) actually apply for them? Really? What kind of alternate fucking universe do these people live in?

@JPL: I don’t know about you but I have seen someone on foodstamps at the end of the month. They watch the register total add up on every scan. They can afford the bread, peanut butter and jelly but the mac and cheese puts them over the top, so they sheepishly put that back. That is no way to live. The idea that someone making 750K a year would have to do that is so damn laughable as to be Kafkaesque.

@Litlebritdifrnt: Well, I think we have a way of keeping people making $750K per year out of the food stamp program. They apply…and are turned down. It’s really not that much of a hassle.

Similar here. Catching up on the Balloon Juice threads, but waiting for Psych to start.

I have worked two early shifts and gotten home by 4:00 p.m. each day. Plus I got a full night’s sleep last night—during “regular” sleeping hours!—so I am feeling uncharacteristically normal tonight.

New episode of Nadia G’s Bitchin’ Kitchen also at 9:00. That’s going on the DVR.

@Paddy: I think she just assumes that Obama saying something at one time or another about “regime change” not being a goal of his administration meant that bygones were bygones and Iran just opened the door to let us back in. It’s not the history per se, it’s the recent present that she missing.

Here’s your dose, top headlines on FoxNews.com right now.

That subhead is absolutely precious but the strategic points here, as I’ve mentioned many times before, are the two smaller headlines, both labor-related. They are attacking labor very hard this year. Expect it to become an issue in the general, even if Democrats don’t realize it.

I’ve often wondered what algorithms Fox uses to promote stories on the front page of its website. My New Years Resolution is to set up a spreadsheet and try to make a crude estimate of their current output based on story themes at certain hours of the day. I’m assuming they’re smart enough to be doing it that way to maximize page views, but then again, that’s the kind of ‘smart’ that Fox News does well.

I’m sure many Juice regulars read Charlie Pierce more or less daily now, but this was so spot-on I just wanna quote it:

This is no longer a campaign. It is Newt Gingrich’s last chance to define himself in history as the grandiose figure he sees when he looks in the mirror. It’s not a book tour any more, or an elaborate form of negotiation aimed at jacking up his lecture fees. If he thinks he can win, Newt Gingrich is going to look at this campaign now as a grand opportunity to justify himself as a man of historical moment, a kind of supra-national figure whose like we will not see again. If anyone thinks he’s likely to abandon that great quest just because he’s fundamentally unprincipled, and because the image itself is a tinpot fraud, they’re fooling themselves.

First thing you’ve said in a long time that I actually agree with! Most of the time you are rambling, incoherent, disrespectful, crass, bitter, naive, gullable, blindly loyal, misinformed, hypocritical, unethical, selfish, and arrogant.

Add to that the inability to see facts and reality in order to form rational thoughts and critically analyze issues and you’re left with what is a totally worthless, but very entertaining show!

It’s like a freak at one of the old-school carnivals. We know how disgusting the freak is, but we can’t look away, and we sometimes feel bad for the freak when he cries. But then we move on quickly in our day and the freak is forgotton, having left society perhaps only slightly worse than it was before the freak was there. The freak doesn’t really play any important part in society other than merely providing a spectacle that grounded indiviuals can use as a comparison to see how unfucked the rest of us really are. Thank god for the freak, for in his incoherent idiocy we see why we can and should make a difference – and the freak always provides some laughs for those of us who really do matter.

But when you let the freaks vote, the whole system can come crashing down. Freaks can’t be taken seriously enough to actually vote. They are for spectacle and entertainment purposes only. So, freak, please know your place and don’t vote.

    Troll out!
