VICTORY!

VICTORY!
VICTORY!
Suck it, “progressives”!
(Sorry. One of the front pagers needed to do it. Come back, Reality Check – all is forgiven.)
Suck it, “progressives”!
(Sorry. One of the front pagers needed to do it. Come back, Reality Check – all is forgiven.)

And “don’t feed the trolls” just flew out the window.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:01 am
@Baud: That was never a particularly iron-clad rule around here anyway.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:03 am
@Baud:
Does it count when what you are feeding them is their own sweet, sweet tears?
November 9th, 2011 at 9:04 am
Reality Check is really the perfect troll though he will have his work cut out for him trying to spin away last night’s results. Also, RC dislikes Tom Friedman as much as the rest of us so he’s not all bad. I hope he shows up soon with the GOP’s new salve for the butt-hurt talking points.

inb4 RC vote fraud claims
November 9th, 2011 at 9:06 am
The sad truth is, had Obama been more proactive none of this would have been necessary in Ohio. By leaving important issues to state voters, Obama has abdicated his role as the leader of the federal government. Moreover, had Obama been more proactive in defending immigration, there would have been no Arizona immigration bill and no need for voters to democratically eject a politician from office. Finally, had Obama’s DEA been aggressively policing prescription drug abuses by physicians, Michael would still be with us today. A traitor to his people; a traitor to democracy; a traitor to America. Worse than Bush, Indeed.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:07 am
I don’t know about the rest of you but I am finding today’s developments in Europe to be highly alarming. Italy might be too big to fail but that is not stopping it from failing regardless. So much for the Europeans being smarter than us; I guess incompetence and ineptitude are universal traits these days.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:09 am
Don’t forget the recall of Paul Scott in Michigan, done without the Michigan Democratic Party! A truly spineless group. Kudos to the teachers showing the way.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:11 am
@eric: Wow. What was for breakfast?
November 9th, 2011 at 9:11 am
@eric: You’re kinda funny, but your routine needs work.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:11 am
@Sarah Proud and Tall:
Real trolls don’t cry.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:12 am
@eric: Too much. Trolling is a delicate art and spoofing it is even more so.
That IS what you’re doing, right?
November 9th, 2011 at 9:12 am
Reality Check will be reedemable only in chickens from now on. Or rubber chickens, and those are worse, because they always bounce.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:13 am
@eric: hey firebagger/pretend left troll, happy heart burns.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:13 am
@beltane: FWIW, here’s a (relatively) optimistic view of Eurodevelopments:
http://ultimibarbarorum.com/20.....ro-crisis/
This is all assuming that the gurgling noise you hear isn’t Italy going down the drain.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:14 am
@eric: Wow, Did he steal your shoe as well?
November 9th, 2011 at 9:14 am
@Zifnab:
It’s more like a guideline.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:15 am
@beltane: High tax Northern Europe + increasing productivity. Low tax (or evade tax) Southern Europe + stagnating productivity. Who do we resemble?
November 9th, 2011 at 9:15 am
@beltane: It’s funny how as soon as Greece was resolved (read: fucked) Italy suddenly became a major crisis. Nothing important about Italy’s finances has changed over the past few days, yet yields are spiking.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:15 am
@beltane: Greed, for lack of a better word…..the EU was designed to make money flows easier and cheaper. It did. One of the added “benefits” of less structural resistance to capital flows is greater volatility. So, even if you have stronger regulatory safeguards separating banking from investing (Europe still smarter), that does not mean that you are guaranteed stability when the money-flow decisions are made based on profit alone (Europe = America).
For years, the IMF/World Bank elite (i.e., the Washington Consensus) have sought to eliminate the barriers to capital flows in the developing nations as a condition of relief. The record is clear: those that maintained some capital controls have suffered shorter troughs when times got tough. Moreover, the capital controls were not only viewed as impediments to capital, but a sign of weak and impoverished economic thinking. Just read the “New” Stiglitz as compared to the “Old” Stiglitz.

November 9th, 2011 at 9:17 am
@beltane: I actually said “Oh shit.” when I say the Italy 10 yr this morning. (It was at 7.48 at the time.) Silvio is going to take everyone with him.
@eric: I’ll give you 2/10 for the correct use of semicolons, which is pretty rare on the Internet.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:17 am
@eric:
lol
November 9th, 2011 at 9:19 am
See if I can actually stay on point here. Pearce goes to the Fiesta Bowl on the taxpayers’ dime, writes SB 1070 and gets his ass kicked.
By a teacher.
That’s gonna leave a mark.
And Kasich’s bill is defeated by an almost 2-1 margin.
I like yesterday’s results just fine. Thanks for this thread, Sarah.
And I feel no need to feed the damn trolls.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:26 am
@eric:
7/10 for troll parody. A little raw, but not too shabby.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:26 am
@4tehlulz:
that’s a serious spike in rates, even for recent developments.
7 was supposed to be the ‘red zone’. italy truly is fucked.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:28 am
@beltane:
Last night’s results represent nothing more than a momentary advance to the rear, an outlier in the resolutely rightward trend of this basically right/far-right nation.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:29 am
@eric:
Poor eric,
Obama kicked him in the balls, gave him a wedgie, and took his lunch, AND his lunch money.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:31 am
@eRiC
Ha,ha,ha,ha!
They have meds for what ails you, buddy. Might want to go get some.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:31 am
@eric:
I think we can all agree that the world would have been a far, far better place—nay, a veritable paradise—had Barack Obama never been born. (In Kenya, of course.)
November 9th, 2011 at 9:32 am
@priscianusjr:
And, of course, this is a massive victory for John Mc Cain.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:32 am
@chopper:
t’ain’t just Italy blowing up this morning, France has a hell of a hangover too.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:33 am
This is a huge f*kin deal:
November 9th, 2011 at 9:34 am
It was pretty funny reading Reality Check’s comments in this thread. From declaring that every election would go GOP and thus doom Obama at the beginning of the thread to cherry-picking one or two positive GOP results in a blue wave as proof that Obama was doomed.
I’m sure he’ll be getting a WaPo column soon…
November 9th, 2011 at 9:35 am

Speak for yourself. I want Darrell to come back, maybe even BIRDZILLA. RC is weak tea(partier).
@Admiral_Komack:
You forgot about Obama not personally delivering his pony. Those damned manic progressives, they’re never happy.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:40 am
@Gin & Tonic: Apparently, piss and vinegar with a side of sh*t sammich.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:41 am
Guys, I’m pretty sure eric is spoofing, or attempting to spoof. It was just a bit too heavy handed.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:42 am
I think of trolls as pets, and you have to occasionally feed your pets, right? Needs the right food?
November 9th, 2011 at 9:44 am
@debit: Thanks my thinking. Doug is bored again.
Also, too..Doug doesn’t consider Reality Check a real troll so enticing him to make a fool of himself is okay.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:46 am
@eric:
eric, are you OK? Are you OK? Are you OK, eric?
November 9th, 2011 at 9:46 am
@RalfW: As an gay Iowayan, I’m quite pleased, though it’s not only the gays rights issue, but every other stupid right wing policy that’s been made more difficult to implement given the Dems retaining control of the state senate…
November 9th, 2011 at 9:49 am
@gnomedad: Nice Ghostbusters reference
November 9th, 2011 at 9:50 am
@debit:
Yeah, the whole “Michael would still be with us” line was the dead giveaway. I LOLed at that point.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:51 am
@Admiral_Komack: adjust your snarkometer
November 9th, 2011 at 9:52 am
After day like yesterday, trolls feed us!
November 9th, 2011 at 9:55 am
@Zandar:
yeah, the spread between french and german bonds is waaaay up. i guess everyone it seeing france as next on the block. bye bye AAA rating.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:56 am
It’s so weird to hear folks talk about the Cons and their mystical epistemological closures and such … and try to understand the motives for constantly making imaginary firebagger cutouts for fake target practice.
Just sayin’
November 9th, 2011 at 9:59 am
Way to go Democrats! Let’s have this just be the start of a bigger whupping next year!
November 9th, 2011 at 10:06 am
@ornery:
Just Saiyan.
November 9th, 2011 at 10:10 am
What eric isn’t telling us is that his last name is Cartman.
November 9th, 2011 at 10:11 am
America loves her some backlash. She votes because she’s pissed the last guy won. But here is your reality check: We repealed their shit on the local level. They repealed nothin’ on the national level.
November 9th, 2011 at 10:11 am
@eric: The part about Michael Jackson worked like Swift’s use of the word “delicious.” Everything up that point was all too believable.
November 9th, 2011 at 10:13 am
I was hoping that the whole noun-verb agreement thing and close to appropriate use of punctuation would be the tell-tale spoof giveaways. I will leave the spoofing to the professionals (DougJ).
eric
November 9th, 2011 at 10:13 am
@eric:
It was a valiant attempt anyways!
November 9th, 2011 at 10:14 am
@FlipYrWhig: that was exactly why i added it. I read the first part and sighed.
November 9th, 2011 at 10:15 am
@eric:
I totally got it was a spoof. I didn’t realize ‘Michael’ was ‘Michael Jackson’, but I became certain with the last couple of sentences. Whiners don’t have that kind of gravitas.
November 9th, 2011 at 10:17 am
@eric:
Snark or just an idiot? I’m not sure. I’m goin’ with idiot.
November 9th, 2011 at 10:25 am
Its great news that Pearce was defeated but more draconian laws than the original Arizona law has passed many of the southern states. Utilities are now required in these states to verify your immigration/citizenship status before you can get water or electricity.

November 9th, 2011 at 10:31 am
@chopper: Or indicating what they think of a move to backstop the PIIGS.
Very pear shaped.
November 9th, 2011 at 11:00 am
@PeakVT:
I still get the feeling that these Southern countries are being ‘harvested’, one by one.
Who’s making money on these bailout/workout packages? Someone must be, or they wouldn’t happen at all.
November 9th, 2011 at 11:01 am
@eric:
Snark is a delicate art, but I think you were almost there. Practice, practice, as they say on the way to Carnegie Hall.
November 9th, 2011 at 11:04 am
@schrodinger’s cat:
That’s just bizarre. I can’t see how that doesn’t come back to bite the state in the ass.
November 9th, 2011 at 11:07 am
@Judas Escargot: I do, too. I don’t see how it can be proved, though, because CDSs and other derivatives are almost entirely unregulated and untracked. Italy is the 3rd biggest bond issuer in the world, but the actual amount being traded could be quite small, allowing for easier manipulation. It looks terribly suspicious, but those finance guys are always on the up-and-up, right?
November 9th, 2011 at 11:16 am
From last night’s spanking of the pet troll thread:
This made me laugh.
People can smell a sh*t sammich at 100 yards. No surprise there.
What wouldn’t totally surprise me (though I acknowledge it’s a stretch/paranoid) would be the Koch bros manipulating the Italian bond market today. It’s a two-fer: 1) gets the US media to barely notice the Koch’s really bad, very no good, no fun news cycle, and 2) continues to push the highly discredited but still wingeratti popular austerity-for-all-you-plebes theme.
Europe must continue to embrace radical austerity, or the American tax cut obsession may be at risk.
November 9th, 2011 at 11:26 am
@daveNYC:
if the ECB really wanted to shore up italy’s bond market, the time to start buying in earnest came and passed. the yield curve is seriously inverted now. happening in china, too, which is kinda scary.
all in all it’s gonna be an interesting rest o’ the year.
November 9th, 2011 at 11:41 am
yeah, in no way do one of our regular trolls use “indeed”....;-)
November 9th, 2011 at 11:46 am
I wonder if people are ever embarrassed by their own failure to spot obvious snark. They should be!
November 9th, 2011 at 12:01 pm
@chopper: Eh, they still could do something. Emergency rate cut, put an extra shift on at the printing press. The usual.
They won’t though, because the Germans would rather see the entire continent burn than even consider the slightest hint of inflation. They might as well be on the gold standard for as much good as the ECB has done.
And the people benefiting from the bailouts are the people who bought Greek/Italian/Spanish bonds. A straight up bailout would just be a backdoor bailout of the French and German banks, same as the AIG cash ended up going to Goldman (and others).
November 9th, 2011 at 12:02 pm
@eric: How long, exactly, have you been an idiot?
November 9th, 2011 at 12:38 pm
@daveNYC:
that and the fact that draghi just cut rates what, a week ago? i guess that was his big response to the mess in italy.
November 9th, 2011 at 12:58 pm
@eric:
That won’t work here, sorry!
November 9th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
@eric:
Nonsense, this was masterful. There are some people here that still don’t get it.
November 9th, 2011 at 1:48 pm
@AnotherBruce:
Don’t look at me, I answer all troll accusations with facts regardless of whether they are spoofs or not. I always have and I always will. It’s great practice for dealing with the real ones (whether I know they are real, or not). I consider “don’t feed the troll” to be a missed opportunity. After all, John Cole was once a Republican. We can’t go into political discussions these days believing they will never get it or else we might as well just turn out the lights and close the door. I have to believe that if these people are presented with the right message, they can be turned from the dark side. Not saying they will, but I have to remain positive that the possibility exists.
November 9th, 2011 at 1:59 pm
Holy shit the national emergency test lasts a whole freaking fifteen minutes? Wow!
November 9th, 2011 at 2:04 pm
Typical right wing troll…can’t own up to the b.s. they preach so they run and hide.
Fuck em.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:05 pm
Seriously…seeing the sour-bitch-face on Arpaio up there just gives me the warmest, fuzziest schadenfreude moment I’ve had in a long, long time. Go home, Joe! Nobody loves you!
