Too Much Awesome In One Place

Who knew that Tyson had a sense of humor? Love it.

Oh Lord, that made my day.

Cain

November 9th, 2011 at 2:49 pm
Mike Tyson! Awesome.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:51 pm
That was 50 different kinds of win.

John Cole:
For weeks I’ve been trying in my mind, unsuccessfully, to reconcile the Tea Party race-baiting with the Cain-love.
Now I finally get it: they love the crazy more than they hate the black. Thank you, Funny or Die for explaining it to me. And thank you, John, for drawing our attention to it.
That’s been bugging me for months now.
.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:53 pm
That goes into the ‘Now I’ve seen everything’ folder.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
@Svensker:
Is that really Tyson? Where’s his eye tat?
.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
Okay. That was funny.
And I didn’t know that Tyson had a sense of humor. Maybe he should display it more.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:56 pm
Awesome to the max. Tyson has the creepy smile at the end down to a T.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:57 pm
would be the funniest thing ever if this wasn’t someone who had been actually convicted of rape – ruined it for me.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:58 pm
Their blacks = people who think things out.
Our blacks = crazy motherfuckers, like us.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:58 pm
Oh man, they are going to love his VP pick.
November 9th, 2011 at 2:58 pm
@Svensker: Iron Mike’s got a great sense of humor that’s been getting sharper and sharper now that he’s finally kicked his drug habit.
Check out the following spoof of the Bobby Brown classic “Every Little Step” video with Mike Tyson and Wayne Brady that makes me laugh out loud every time I watch it. http://FunnyOrDie.com/m/4oc1
edit: Mike’s big moment starts at 1:19

@JGabriel:
Great question, but they actually have other Tyson videos at their site and in some of them Tyson has it. Did they cover it with makeup?
November 9th, 2011 at 2:59 pm
Lulz.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:01 pm
A convicted rapist as a candidate recently mostly referenced to as a sexual harasser. Hopefully they stay away from that subject if there are any more of these.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:01 pm
@JGabriel:
I’m not sure that’s it. I think it’s also important that a lot of them apparently hate Mormon more than they hate black. Or maybe it’s that they hate sane, creepy, inconsistent Mormon more than they hate creepy, consistently crazy black.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:08 pm
Wait… that was actually Mike Tyson? Whoa.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:08 pm
[...] John Cole, who observes, “The part about tea partiers loving crazy more than they hate blacks made me [...]
November 9th, 2011 at 3:15 pm
Was I the only person who had trouble understanding him? Even with the volume way up.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:17 pm
Good to see Tyson’s comedy talent after all the damage he sustained in the ring. He’s in better shape than Ali; and more cogent.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:19 pm
@existential fish: Agreed. Kind of bothered that so many people here find it funny.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:20 pm
Holy shit, now I know why Herman’s staying in the race: to interview the other wives.

@JGabriel: lotsa makeup

@Alison: I can hate Mike Tyson and still think that what he is saying is funny.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:26 pm
I separate art from artist. Brilliant performers can be bad people. Otherwise you end up throwing away an awful lot of compelling performances, books, and art.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:26 pm
@Alison: Horrible people can make good entertainment. Often they make the best entertainment. Warren Zevon seems to be the local favorite example.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:26 pm
Paterno’s resignation is rocking the markets.
I hope you’re happy.

where’s the grill? oh wait, that’s Foreman., never mind…
November 9th, 2011 at 3:30 pm
I heard my wife cackling in her computer/laundry/junk room. (We call it the Orile Tates room after the brilliant multi-tasker). Funny stuff!
November 9th, 2011 at 3:31 pm
@David Koch:
i thought it was because i took the day off.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:32 pm
@Shinobi: Okay, that’s valid. I can’t, and I have trouble comprehending how others can, is all I was saying. When a man can be convicted of committing heinous crimes against women, and people are still able to chuckle at his jokes, that’s sad to me.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:32 pm
not fair, i’m at work >:{
can’t wait to go home and watch this!
November 9th, 2011 at 3:35 pm
I’m not opposed to finding Mike Tyson funny (And I don’t judge anyone for laughing – the material is pretty good!) – I thought his cameo in The Hangover was funny. I just didn’t find it to work here, mostly because the charges against Cain highlight that element in Tyson.
At least Tyson did his time, though.

Joe Walsh explains why he got all yelly at constituents:
That just cries out for the Gastritis Broke My Calculator tag.

Cain!!
Woo…pure comedy.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:41 pm
This is also somewhat amusing. My favorite is the Bachmann’s, “Whenever you’re out of town I find everything I need on Craigslist…”
November 9th, 2011 at 3:42 pm
@existential fish:
Not to mention this was filmed long before Hermie’s Roman hands and Russian fingers became an issue. But hey, maybe he did time too and just Cain’t remember?
November 9th, 2011 at 3:42 pm
@existential fish:
This. I would have laughed if I hadn’t been rendered extremely uncomfortable both by the rape thing and the fairly unpleasant racist overtones in choosing a rapist and a moron to parody Cain. Not enough distance, as well, between comedian and object of satire.

Tyson/Brady:
Mike is cute in this video. Ain’t got no rhythm but . . . .
:-)
November 9th, 2011 at 3:46 pm
Who remembers this hilarious Mike Tyson oscar’s parody from earlier this year?
November 9th, 2011 at 3:47 pm
@Linda Featheringill:
Well he was on the roast of Charlie Sheen, and in a little-known comedy called The Hangover.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:47 pm
This is completely unfair, because no one came out of the 70’s looking good, but, oh my God, here is:
Herman Cain, 1971.

@JGabriel:
Shorter fuse than “normal”? Lack of self-control issues is more like it.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:49 pm
@JGabriel:
Man purse!
November 9th, 2011 at 3:50 pm
@JGabriel: He could totally show up at a hipster bar in that exact outfit and be a hit
November 9th, 2011 at 3:52 pm
@Alison: I don’t actually think he wrote these jokes. I’m pretty sure he’s just the guy telling them. Which helps.
I tend to have a harder time with people who commit crimes and then are NOT convicted. (cough*rapistberger*cough) Tyson has served his time, and found religion in the process. I hope that he learned something from it.
(Edited for overthinking)
November 9th, 2011 at 3:53 pm
@trollhattan:
I think that’s a binocular case.
Also – and give me a pass on how I know – that pathway behind him leads to the first aid room. Given Herman’s later..tendencies…I could see how his use of binoculars would pretty quickly require first aid.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:57 pm
The documentary Tyson is really good.
November 9th, 2011 at 3:59 pm
@aimai:
I don’t think the sexual harassment charges had come up yet, so that didn’t figure. Is Tyson a moron? He certainly acted like one when he was young, dumb and famous and on drugs. But I have no idea how smart the man actually is. He seems smart enough to capture Cain’s moves and looks, which is what the producers were probably going for. No dog whistles involved.
November 9th, 2011 at 4:01 pm
@trollhattan:
Look at this picture and try not to let it burrow into your soul: http://is.gd/eiMFlO
November 9th, 2011 at 4:07 pm
Note perfect comedy gold, though yes, the “Wait a minute, aren’t you a convicted rapist?” realisation spoiled it a bit. Everyone’s mileage varies.
OTOH, now I want Cain to stay in the race long enough for Shatner to do a mocupiece of Kirk screaming “CAAAIIIIINNNNNN!” into the camera.
November 9th, 2011 at 4:07 pm
@BGK:
I bet that’s a camera case since he is at Walt Disney World.
November 9th, 2011 at 4:07 pm
@Peter J:
And here we thought Irony was dead. S/He rises like the Phoenix to Pimp=Slap us all!
November 9th, 2011 at 4:08 pm
@Svensker:
I don’t know. I knew I would get in trouble for calling the spot quasi racist because, after all, technically it can’t be racist to have a black man parodied by a black man. At least it wasn’t a white comedian in blackface.
But the whole thing just felt creepily wrong to me—I would have felt more comfortable (oddly enough) with the Tracey Jordan character from Thirty Rock playing Cain. Although in real life Tracey Jordan isn’t such a prize either. But because I’m used to watching him “play” a character he seems more fictitious to me than real. As for Tyson, the lisp and his near total inability to deliver his lines incline me towards the “genuinely not too bright” thing. And Cain, for all his horrors, is probably a pretty bright guy.
Up until the sexual harrassment things Cain was sucessfully playing the tea party for complete fools and successfully selling his book. The Tyson thing seems to imply he’s basically an idiot, a modern day stepin fetchit. I don’t think he’s that at all—I think he’s a pretty good con man. And that makes the con even funnier. But Tyson played it for real. And that struck me as in linewith a long tradition of treating black men as fools. Cain isn’t a total fool—he’s in control (or was in control) of a pretty good con.

November 9th, 2011 at 4:10 pm
@Alison: for other examples see Vick, Michael or Vitter, Asshole… er I mean David.
November 9th, 2011 at 4:11 pm
@aimai:
Actually, while I won’t call him an idiot, he does feel like a stepin fetchit to me. Which is the same way Michael Steele felt to me.
Doesn’t mean that both weren’t/aren’t conning republicans into giving them money.
November 9th, 2011 at 4:19 pm
Cain is a MINSTREL. plain and simple
November 9th, 2011 at 4:49 pm
@aimai:
I understand what you’re saying but not sure I agree with it. I don’t see the “Cain is stupid” thing here, only that the producer’s going for “Cain is playing crazy” since that’s what the TP likes. To me, it seems more like your feelings about Tyson are coloring your response to the ad, than the actual dynamics of the ad itself. But, not for the first time, I could be wrong.
Incidentally, since when does a lisp convey stupidity? That struck me as odd.
Also, you’re not “in trouble” :), at least with me. I may not always agree with you (although mostly I do), but I always find you to be a thoughtful and interesting commenter.
November 9th, 2011 at 4:57 pm
@Alison: Well, the guy served his time and sometimes people deserve second chances.
November 9th, 2011 at 5:11 pm
@JGabriel:
Where’s the ‘stache??
?
Damn. Now I can see why the American Mustache Institute rescinded their endorsement.
November 9th, 2011 at 5:40 pm
@aimai: Wow. So much for paying your debt to society. I’m not going to minimize what he did, but it’s not like the man wasn’t tried, convicted and incarcerated for it. Because of that, I’m inclined to cut him some slack. I’m kind of liberal that way.
Oh, and my father-in-law speaks with a lisp. He can’t help it. Try telling him he’s “not too bright.”
November 9th, 2011 at 5:44 pm
That was really Tyson? He was frickin’ awesome!
November 9th, 2011 at 6:31 pm
@trollhattan:
Take a good look at Callista Gingrich in that photo. Forget the helmet hair and the death’s-rictus smile, just look at the eyes. I know not everyone’s face is perfectly symmetrical (in fact, I think asymmetry is probably what makes faces interesting), but there is something just really off about CG’s eyes—they are sending completely different messages (one of which is “OMG FFS FSM GET ME OUT OF HERE!”)
I almost feel sorry for her.
November 9th, 2011 at 6:36 pm
@SiubhanDuinne: Blinking in Morse code, is she?
November 9th, 2011 at 7:24 pm
I think the video is funny and I’ve always thought the rape charges against Mike Tyson were bogus and that he never would have been convicted had he not been black. The supposed victim lied on the stand and ended up with quite the payday, as I recall.
November 9th, 2011 at 9:46 pm
@Shinobi: I think it was more the loss of his daughter, not prison, that straightened Tyson out.
November 9th, 2011 at 10:15 pm
@JGabriel:
I was thinking A Dingo Ate My Baby!
But i’m not sure if it’s actually a tag, or just one of the Cole-isms that rotate at the top of the page.

liberal scolding about comedy is probably more insufferable than christian scolding. This was pure fucking gold.
