Scott Brown’s body
Scott Brown’s “Thank God” quip was a major error. He won the last election by playing Sam Malone to Martha Coakley’s Diane Chambers, and that’s his best shot this time too. Sam Malone wouldn’t talk that way about 60 year-old woman, that’s for sure.
One thing that makes Massachusetts a bit different from other states is that there are large swaths (i.e. the entire South Shore) where close to 100% of the people spend close to 100% of their time listening to some form of talk radio, not just winger radio but local stuff (which tends to lean right but not as far). These swaths are also close to 100% uptight Catholics who are titillated by the nude picture angle but find Brown’s statement to be crass.
A Member’s Only jacket, picture of himself with Elvis, and blend of Old Spice, Hai Karate, and something that takes spots out may not be enough to be save him.

Warren is going to beat Brown comfortably. Book it.
I’d be hard pressed not to vote for her for POTUS based on everything I’ve seen of her.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:33 pm
Thank the FSM for 98.6. The afternoon drive show is kicking ass. They avoid politics, but Felger’s an ex hippie and insinuates he still smokes pot, and Mazz is a proud liberal, and they’re kicking angry old white guy ass and taking names. That said, I hope Elizabeth Warren likes sports and doesn’t have old pictures of her wearing Yankees shit. They’ll have a lot of sympathy for her, except for that.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:37 pm
DougJ, I hate you. That is all.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:38 pm
I love it that NE is deep blue, though sometimes with some strange reddish auroras. But it is also like a foreign country to me, trying to understand the particular nuances of it’s liberal stripes. Like the “southies” to me seem like good ole boys I knew from the hills of E Kentucky. Where the stork let me slip through it’s beak and land ass first in that particular American jungle.
Warren will beat that Brown clod pretty boy, and hang his Hanes in the dunce corner of her new senate office.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:39 pm
Brown = Sam Malone (appearance) + The Coach (brain) + Woody (street smarts)
October 6th, 2011 at 6:42 pm
out of curiosity, do any of you actually read your own site?
now, i know levenson, being the pretentious art douche he is, is easy to skip, but his post on this has been up for like an hour now. hard to say which of you came up with the better thread title. both are just kinda there.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:42 pm
He also said that she was educated at Harvard (she wasn’t), so he hasn’t been briefed by his staff on her. That moron is in the worst fucking Republican seat in Congress and he hasn’t studied up on his steamroller opponent? He deserves to lose big.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:42 pm
@General Stuck:
She’ll beat on him like Keith Moon, in MA in bad economic times. She’s got a great rap, because she gets it. Every time I hear her talk I want to marry her.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:43 pm
@aisce:
That’s why I linked to his post, you idiot.
(edited because I thought your comment was saying something else originally)
October 6th, 2011 at 6:46 pm
I also thought of the gentile New England-angle. But on the other hand, Massachusetts doesn’t have the best track record of electing women to statewide office. And they already voted for Brown once, so the shock might not be as big as one thinks.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:47 pm
@aisce:
Spoken like a true Protestant.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:49 pm
@aisce: All I do is read your annoying bullshit.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:50 pm
@General Stuck:
The South Shore of Mass. is where the Irish went who were shut out of the North Shore where the Brahmins had their estates. There’s a part of the Cape called the Irish Riviera. At the risk of being overly simplistic, but not by a lot, they’re from working class immigrant stock who became middle and upper middle class, but they remember where they came from. They’re over-represented in the police, fire and public sector, and the building/RE development trades. Reliably Democratic, but they went for Hillary, big, in the primaries, if you know what I mean. They’re not Scott Brown’s natural constituents if Warren is effective in locating him firmly in the party that hates unions and wants to take away their social security. She should do fine.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:50 pm
It was the “right” comment for this particular audience: local talk radio listeners. None of whom were going to vote for Warren anyway.
Everyone else? Not so much. Pretty people stop seeming so pretty when they start talking like bullies… and the proverbial tape was rolling.
Bad move on his part. Shame this isn’t October 2012 instead of 2011.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:50 pm
well I have a problem with it, because I think Sam Malone would say EXACTLY that based on Elizabeth Warren’s appearance. Sam Malone had as much character depth as a teaspoon (h/t J. Rowling) and Brown, adopting that as his model (sic) of behavior in this instance, is most definitely playing to all horndog males between the ages of 15 and 65 and any woman who is threatened by women of character who are getting by on their own looks and vanity. I gotta believe that’s a big demographic.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:51 pm
@Cat Lady:
What risk? I don’t think anyone would dispute your description.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
I completely disagree on principle with banning trolls, since circle-jerks don’t interest me, but am nevertheless impressed that two people seemed to be arguing about other shit within 10 comments. Post titles? I LOL’d.
I love this blog.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
@Cat Lady:
Thanks, that helped.
October 6th, 2011 at 6:55 pm

Please, keep your criticism of Cheers to yourself. It’s an emotional subject for me.

Maybe the Italians. They’ve got their enclaves too – ever been to Old Silver Beach in Falmouth? It could be in Sicily.

Or he has and doesn’t really care about the truth. He doesn’t care if she went to H1rvard or GW, he just wants to say, “she’s one of them.”
October 6th, 2011 at 6:59 pm
@ piratedan
boy, i hope “j. rowling” isn’t the harry potter lady. because character depth? she’s the george lucas of stupid teenage wizard books.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Brown’s comment was, above all, weird. He sounded like an aging male prostitute bragging about his continued ability to appeal to men. Misogyny, yeah, but of a very odd type.
Is this what counts as masculinity in the Republican mind?
October 6th, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Scott Brown is a dooshnozzle and stupid to boot. Warren is smart, articulate, and obviously passionate about what she’s doing. I don’t envision her having a tough time getting the seat in MA.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:01 pm
@Cat Lady:
You mean they’re racists. Just say it. They are this guy.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:02 pm
@aisce:
You know, your all-purpose misanthropy is starting to grow on me.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:02 pm
Brown not only demeaned her appearance but dissed her intelligence. She did not go to Harvard but teaches there. He had a difficult childhood but guess what Scott she did also. Scott chose to earn money anyway he could to pay for school and Elizabeth chose scholarships and loans. Scott sounds like a whiner.
also, too..she is an attractive lady so wtf was he talking about?
October 6th, 2011 at 7:02 pm
@Cat Lady: Do they have good bakeries there? Really, if they do I am going to make a special trip. There are some things that suck about Vermont and the lack of Italian markets is one of them.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:03 pm
@ john o
they’re what get dougj up in the morning. that, and the new york times’ stellar and highly illuminating op-ed page. and apparently cheers.
but i do so dearly apologize for interrupting your furious masterbation session over a 60 year old law professor you’ve never met. fap on, johnny. warren/box of kleenex 2016!
October 6th, 2011 at 7:06 pm
@beltane:
That and saluting patriotic flagpoles at full mast.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:07 pm
My 13yr old daughter started watching Cheers reruns this summer and absolutely loved them. When she would tell me about an episode she thought was funny, she always would call Sam, Sammy, like some of them do on the show.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:08 pm
@beltane:
Yes, but it’s off season. All the action moves to Hyannis until next May.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:09 pm
@aisce:
Wow! And here I was considering the idea that I misunderstood what you were trying to get across!
October 6th, 2011 at 7:09 pm
I like Doug’s post titles.
I also like the fact that good ol’ folks like us can not come here if it makes us insane.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:10 pm
@aisce: Oh, thank you!
I was beginning to feel Ike the only FP-er too mild mannered to attract the snarling mass of vitriolic jackals. If the latest incarnation of DougJ will instruct me in the hows and whyfors, I’ll grab “pretentious art douche” as a screen epithet from time to time.
Truly, you’ve made my day.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:13 pm
@Tom Levenson: pretentious art douche could be your new avatar. In fact, I suggest sending it to the family and see what they think. lol..
I love your posts even though some think you a pretentious art douche!
October 6th, 2011 at 7:17 pm
@Dougerhead: I had the exact same thought. And then I changed my mind.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:19 pm
Hey, take yer clothes off to pay for school; it’s at least a noble cause.
But the meanness of it; that’s what bothers me. As a Warren fan… and as someone with an X chromosome.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:19 pm
Topic at hand..Brown is a “douche” who will sell his soul to the highest bidder, including Wall Street. He isn’t mature enough to debate the issues rather than appearances. Is it time for him to revisit high school?
October 6th, 2011 at 7:20 pm
@JPL: I knew Art Douche. I went to school with Art Douche. And you, sir, are no Art Douche.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:21 pm
@Cat Lady:
Closer in, you have Southie, With Trees (Weymouth) and Rockland-is-Ashmont-Spelled-Backwards.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:23 pm
@Tom Levenson: The dude is a weenie, pay no heed.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:23 pm
@Tom Levenson: Heh – “a refuge for a snarling mass of vitriolic vicious jackals” is likely my most worthwhile contribution to this site.
That, or passing this along.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:25 pm
@BGinCHI:
Never thought Sam Malone was all that. And have you seen him lately? Looks like Frankenstein’s freaking monster. Plus he wore a rug. Now he wears a gray rug.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:25 pm
@Tom Levenson: Thank you, I am still laughing.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:25 pm
@Tom Levenson:
You know who else was a pretentious art douche?
Adolph “Iron Joe” Hitler.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:30 pm
@Tom Levenson:
You just go into your profile and change your screen name. It’s right there in Site Admin.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:32 pm
@slag:
Mine is changing too.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:33 pm
@aisce: sorry…. didn’t realize that you were a Twilight fan
October 6th, 2011 at 7:34 pm
@Tom Levenson: Tom, they probably consider all art to be pretentious, unless it is painted on velvet.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:35 pm
@Dougerhead: okay Woody, will do!
October 6th, 2011 at 7:36 pm
@Davis X. Machina: I don’t even play art douche on TV..
October 6th, 2011 at 7:37 pm
@piratedan:
No way! (I’m occasionally catching a rerun these days.) Sam would’ve (a) emphasized his own manliness and (b) awkwardly hit on her.
Warren: I kept my clothes on.
Sam:
Thank God.That’s ‘cause I wasn’t there.October 6th, 2011 at 7:37 pm
@RSA: You definitely win that one. So right on.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:40 pm
@RSA: nah….. he would have asked if she had a daughter….. or a younger sister… or both ;-)
October 6th, 2011 at 7:40 pm
I just want to say that the fact you linked to Lonely Sandwich’s web site warms the cockles of my heart.
Love that guy.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:41 pm
Scott Brown could have given a very classy response to Warren’s comment, something along the lines of: “The quest for a college education is a noble goal and no one should be mocked for doing whatever it takes to get one.” But no, he had to do the Republican thing and attack a nice, matronly looking woman on her physical appearance. Brown is not exactly quick on his feet.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:42 pm
@aisce:
You’re really just a big, stupid dick. You’re also boring. I don’t care what you say in return. Get the fuck out of your house every once in a while and interact with other humans. The Internet is not the best way to relate to other humans. Fuck off.
That’s all.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:42 pm
Glory, glory, hallelujah.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:44 pm
@WereBear: That is the real take away. A swing and a miss.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:45 pm
Doug,
You had me at the title, but you owe me a keyboard by reason of the Hai Karate reference.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:46 pm
Scott Brown is willing to sell his soul to the highest bidder including Wall Street and especially the Koch brothers. He might not think Warren is worthy of centerfolds but I think that misses the bigger story. IMO
Also too.. Since we are talking about Cheers.. Decades ago while in a grocery store in FL shopping for vacation, Rhea Perlman tried to take my cart..okay she won.. I said to the mother-in-law..that is Rhea Perlman.. The mil asks if she has been on Today show.. Then I see Danny..and catch up with the FIL and say Rhea and Danny are here.. He was also confused..
Finally I catch up with the spouse..now ex..in the beer aisle and I said Danny DeVito is here and just as Danny passes my now ex says who the hell is Danny DeVito. DeVito laughed and I figured that I was shopping with only folks who had never heard of them.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:46 pm
@beltane: I’m not sure I’d go with “matronly”. How many times has Jon Stewart told her he wanted to make out with her? The woman’s got zeal.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:46 pm
Meh. Brown is just a run-of-the-mill himbo.
Himbos always feel threatened by women who everyone knows are smarter than they are. It’s about as unmanly as one can get to try to compete with a woman on the basis of physical attractiveness. I mean, only the shallowest, least desireable women do that to other women…for a guy to do it is just…sad beyond belief.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:48 pm
I keep waiting for someone to dig up pictures of a younger Elizabeth Warren. Then someone will Photoshop her face onto a bikini model and we’ll be off to the races.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:49 pm
Whoo Hooo:
The Democratic leader had become fed up with Republican demands for votes on motions to suspend the rules after the Senate had voted to end a filibuster.
Reid said these motions, which do not need unanimous consent, amount to a second-round filibuster after the Senate has voted to move to final passage of a measure.
The surprise move stunned Republicans, who did not expect Reid to bring heavy artillery to what had been a humdrum knife fight over amendments to China currency legislation.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:49 pm
@slag: I guess I meant wholesome looking. Scott Brown’s comment sounded, um…catty.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:49 pm
New Doug or dougerhead or whoever you are this moment, In the future you might link to Warren’s site so we can donate money. Just an idea.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:51 pm
@Cat Lady:
Warren sometimes reminds me of a nun, but in a good way—one of those nice activist nuns from the 1970s who would lay down in front of trains that were carrying nuclear weapons.
I can only think that will work to her advantage in Massachusetts.
(Edited for clarity.)
October 6th, 2011 at 7:52 pm
@Raven (formerly stuckinred): do you have a link? hallelujah..
October 6th, 2011 at 7:53 pm
Only in the sense that nobody here in MA is going to care about it in a month’s time, much less a year. This isn’t even a storm in a teacup, more of a storm in a thimble.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:53 pm
@JPL: Sorry, the comments are awesome, it’s all over for the Dems.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:54 pm
@piratedan: Well, yeah. Thanks, slag.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:54 pm
@Raven (formerly stuckinred): Didja see what Harry said about Gitmo? Defense Authorization won’t get a vote with any funding for gitmo in it.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:56 pm
@MikeJ: I missed that. May as well go down swinging.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:59 pm
@beltane: Yeah. I’ll buy that. She’s the Veronica to his Heather.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:59 pm
Raven, Thanks.. I actually added a few comments. What did Reid do? Our constitution says minorities rule..
October 6th, 2011 at 8:04 pm
I can’t even imagine. I’ll sometimes listen to the Sirius station that used to be Air America if there’s an interesting guest, but mostly it’s just mostly dopey callers adn really bad commercials
is this getting real play in MA, or is it just another tempest in the blogosphere?
October 6th, 2011 at 8:04 pm
Sam wouldn’t have said it. Norm would have, though. Then Cliff would have agreed and Carla would have ripped them both. Diane wouldn’t understand what was going on, and Woody would have thought he understood, but not.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:05 pm
Only in the sense that nobody here in MA is going to care about it in a month’s time, much less a year
I’d say this is more of a symptom of Browns problems and a sign of things to come rather than an error which will directly affect the outcome of the election. Warren gets under his skin and he has a problem handling it in a socially appropriate manner. This will occur again.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:09 pm

http://www.washingtonpost.com/....._blog.html
this is just gonna make stuckinravenred hate me even more (what ever will i do?!), but he didn’t understand the hill article. not that i blame him, it was written in senate-ese, which is only the most incomprehensible language known to man.
reid is trying to kill the third-level filibuster that exists on bills. not the one to open cloture, not the one to close cloture. the one to “suspend the rules” (which are somehow allowed to be suspended for some reason) and force unwanted votes on amendments to bills.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:14 pm
@RSA:
Hah! Yes!
October 6th, 2011 at 8:14 pm
@Morzer: Nope. Brown is playing Lazio to Warren’s Hillary. It sank Lazio.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:17 pm
@Mnemosyne:
I think she’s a perfect fit for the demo she’s going to need – the white middle class Hillary voters. Also, Scott Brown hasn’t done anything – he’s all talk no walk, and the teatards who organized for him aren’t going to be very enthusiastic. They think he wants to be a younger better looking RINO version of Kerry.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:18 pm
@aisce: the comments are hilarious…though..read them omg…the minority has the right to rule …....
I know you are a troll but McConnell must even embarrass you…
October 6th, 2011 at 8:22 pm
@Bex: I thought Brown was playing Felix to Warren’s Oscar.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:22 pm
someone may have said this already, but doggone if Lawrence O’D isn’t mopping the floor with Herman Cain. Wow.
THIS is the best they can do. This and Romney. Fucking wow.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:25 pm
I haven’t been watching O’Donnell’s interview with Herman Cain, but O’D is really getting under his skin, specifically about HC’s dodging combat in Vietnam
October 6th, 2011 at 8:26 pm
@aisce: Hate? Come on, I just think you are full of shit.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:28 pm

October 6th, 2011 at 8:30 pm

Nonsense. My twitter tweets will outlive your cynicism.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:34 pm
@Cat Lady: I was in that neck of the woods once. Felt like a foreign country. This group of guys got into it in a bar one time, and there was nothing that we could do about it. We had to sit still and take it. It was among the Italians. It was real greaseball shit.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:37 pm

Only in the fever swamps of teh Village would an obscure procedural move be considered “a shocking development.”
October 6th, 2011 at 8:46 pm
@Bex:
Not even remotely comparable. Warren dinged Brown, he dinged her back. Voters aren’t even tuned in at this point, and even if they were, it’s a small-time pissing match between two politicians with too much time on their hands. Inconsequential is probably too generous a verdict on this skirmish.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:47 pm
@Raven (formerly stuckinred): ugh..I don’t have cable so have to wait awhile in order to watch LO… Did he question Cain’s 9.9.9 plan? I just want someone to ask if you cut taxes for corporations and the wealthy how is it not regressive?
October 6th, 2011 at 8:47 pm
@Raven (formerly stuckinred):
It’s not, and it’s painfully obvious that Cain knows it.

Good to see that Reid got fed up, though I wish he would go go all the way and nuke all filibusters. There’s too many open positions and Republicans are just blatantly taking nominees hostage.

@PeakVT: Al Franken said they couldn’t get fifty votes to reform the filibuster, and even if they got 50, they weren’t sure how Biden would vote. Between the pathological delusion the old Bulls have about “World’s Greatest Deliberative Body” and the Conserva-Dems, we’re fucked.
October 6th, 2011 at 9:06 pm
@Raven (formerly stuckinred):
It all has to to with the context.
Cain actually seems to be showing some shame about this…which means he’s no Dick Cheney.
But then again, one of the real problems with this country was seen in 2004, when the candidate who had actually volunteered to go to ‘Nam, and was wounded and decorated for his actions, lost to a sack of deserting shit whose supporters mocked the ‘Nam vet with “purple heart” band aids.
As a veteran myself, this disgusts me no end. These fucking people claim to revere those who serve in the military, yet at the drop of a political hat mock them.
See also the active duty in Iraq soldier booed by the GOP debate audience.

In other noteworthy inside Washington news, the house of republicans voted down a measure proposed by Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. to essentially hold Perry accountable for “N****rhead.”

Any use of the rarely used “nuclear option”, or changing senate rules on a strict simple majority vote, is a very very big deal. Even if it is limited. I suspect the howls from wingnuttia will put this story on the front burner for the news cycle, but we shall see.
October 6th, 2011 at 9:15 pm
@Villago Delenda Est: I’m with you all the way. I just don’t see what the point that rant by Lawrence was supposed to accomplish. Cain didn’t seem shook to me but, as you said, perspectives are different.

Good television.

I might add, that in 2008, I don’t think ANYONE mocked McCain’s service. They DID mock his “oh, btw, did you know I was a POW?” thing. McCain set himself up for that, almost to the degree that Guilliani did with his “noun, verb, 9-11” cliche.
The media had a HUGE dustup about Wesley Clark’s comments about McCain’s POW status, and twisted it no end when all Clark said was that being a POW was not some checkmark on the list of things you had to be to run for President..that McCain’s POW experience had little to do with his qualifications for the office. Somehow, this was morphed (and the wingtards gleefully jumped in on it) into dissing him for being a POW. The fact of the matter is, that McCain had a command after his POW stint, and didn’t do so well…to the point where he retired, never achieving his own father’s rank. Which might make one think twice about how qualified he was to be Commander-in-Chief, and it’s the sort of direct correlation that wingnuts are so fond of.

Only an utter douchebag insults a candidate on their appearance. Exception that proves the rule: Chris Christie. You”d have to be blind to not notice old Crooked Mctubbaguts, the literal 800 pound gorilla in the room. That fat fuck oughtta be serenaded with chants of Fatty Fatty Two By Four every time he appears in public.
October 6th, 2011 at 9:38 pm
@Villago Delenda Est:
Some of us mocked McCain’s ability to fly planes.
I do recall during the primaries some conservative nutjob site all but calling McCain a Manchurian candidate.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
It seems to be getting a lot of play in MA based on what I see on the newspaper websites. I’ll check in with my relatives about this—they all listen to the radio constantly.

@Mark S.:
A big part of that is that despite being near the very bottom of his class at Annapolis, he got one of the most prestigious entry level jobs there is in the Navy: Naval Aviation.
He then proceeded to commit errors that would wash most out, simply because the training is fantastically expensive and you can’t afford to keep throwing good money after bad like that.
Unless you’re the son and grandson of admirals, of course.

Woohoo is right… thats the way to do it..

Brown might be pretty now (debatable) but one day he’ll be old and wrinkly. Warren will always be smarter and faster than him. Bet that bites.

The Sports Talk radio crowd will eat that up – they lean hard right
October 6th, 2011 at 10:09 pm
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Did Franken say that recently? It certainly wasn’t the case back in January, but maybe a few people have changed their minds.

@Tom Levenson:
Damnit. I liked it and was going to steal it.
Appearance-based prejudice is such a charming element of our politics. I’m wondering who’s going to step up and defend it.
October 6th, 2011 at 10:53 pm
@suzanne: Apparently someguy will be the hypocrite to say that appearance-based insults are okay if the person is just THAT ugly.

@arguingwithsignposts:
It’s probably considered a “shocking development” by the Village Media because they aren’t used to Democrats – ANY Democrat actually standing up and using their Majority in the Senate to block Republican bullshit obstructionism. IOKIYAR is one of the operating principles of the Washington press: it freaks them out when their perceptions of GOP Supremacy get challenged.
October 6th, 2011 at 11:22 pm
Tom Levenson –
I was unaware that anyone associated with MIT was allowed to have the word “art” appear anywhere in any type of description of said MIT-associated person. Kinda like “Creation Science” – the two terms are as close to matter/anti-matter as they come.
“Pretentious douche”, on the other hand … well, let’s just say Harvies aren’t the only Cantabs who might earn that description.
Edit: And, no, I ain’t a-talkin’ about Rindge & Latin, so don’t get any ideas of weaseling out of it.
October 6th, 2011 at 11:30 pm
@suzanne: We are all pretentious art douche now.

“One thing that makes Massachusetts a bit different from other states is that there are large swaths (i.e. the entire South Shore) where close to 100% of the people spend close to 100% of their time listening to some form of talk radio, not just winger radio but local stuff (which tends to lean right but not as far).”
This. I think Brown got himself the votes of Gerry Callahan and every third meathead who calls into WEEI every morning.
Idiots.

That Hai Karate advertisement is quite the find, Doug.
It’s like the Babe Ruth to Axe’s Hank Aaron in the douchebaggery game. A pioneer.

Yep. I can see the smirk, swagger, and swing of the coffee cup as he says it. You definitely nailed Sudden Sam Malone’s take on that comment.

@Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason: Oops, Mayday Malone. I’m an idiot.
October 7th, 2011 at 2:07 am
Shame, Senator Brown Do you think your Mama would be proud of that?

@Villago Delenda Est: If he hadn’t been Junior’s kid, he’d never even made it out of the Academy.
He’d have ended up doing a stretch as a bosun’s mate on a tanker.
He couldn’t even fly worth a crap.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:45 am
Just for clarity’s sake: can we assume you meant “under his own power”?
Because getting throwed outta bars qualifies as “made it out of”.
October 7th, 2011 at 10:04 am
@General Stuck: Good test here. The inside baseball of Senate maneuvers, holds, filibusters, etc., has simply not been discussed, although it is largely what Republicans have done. Will a counter-maneuver by the Dems suddenly excite the press and public? Probably yes, because the Wurlitzer will keep playing it ad nauseum. But one hopes that all the sages who have ignored Republican ploys, saying that people are just not interested, will be right. But good luck with that, I suppose.
