That is an insult to shelled reptiles everywhere.

I wonder (and this is a serious question) at what point the GOP would admit to there being a taxing problem? Or is that not a serious question?

Wrong! Someone might’ve licked his 9-volt battery, but that “dude” ain’t licked nuthin but taint.

Roy at alicublog has, as usual, found quite the assortment of amusing right-wingers for the topic of the day. Apparently, gay people shouldn’t care so much about being allowed to legally marry because marriage isn’t that great anyway.
Weird how for these guys gay marriage is simultaneously THE DOWNFALL OF CIVILIZATION and such a minor thing that gay people shouldn’t even bother trying to get it because seriously, doods, it’s totally lame.
Yutsano - June 29, 2011 | 1:55 am · Link
Wrong. The single vs married filing joint tax rat is enough of a difference alone to justify the fight for equality. The feds are gonna get dragged into this kicking and screaming by a lawsuit. No way they do it on their own.
(PS I’m not saying YOU’RE wrong Mnem, just that idea is.)

@ Yutsano
It’s more that it’s the world’s most transparent dodge: “No, really, having a million dollars is more trouble than it’s worth. You should just keep working your minimum wage job because being able to pay your bills is overrated.”

Speaking of dodges, looks like Michele is caught in yet another hypocrisy trap.

You can say that about McConnell, but you can’t say he’s a bad negotiator.
And if you say Obama’s a good negotiator, you have to say what you think he’s trying to get.
And if you say we don’t have a capitulation problem, you have to say who you think “we” is.

@Yutsy: Why does it cost $137,000 to pray away the gay?
That’s an expensive god and for that kind of money, I would expect results.
Spaghetti Lee - June 29, 2011 | 2:12 am · Link
but you can’t say he’s a bad negotiator.
I’d personally hold out on saying he’s a good or bad negotiator until he does or doesn’t get what he wants. I will, however, choose to remember the Govt. Shutdown fight of April, in which the Republicans ended up getting very few of the cuts they demanded and let the shutdown itself slip through their fingers.

Like, e.g., my gay son’s gay is prayed away and International Mr Leather gets rained out. Results.
Mnemosyne - June 29, 2011 | 2:15 am · Link
And yet people on the left hold that up as an example of Obama Selling Us Out and capitulating to Republican demands. That’s even after the series of revelations that the Repubs got rolled on that one, so we’re not talking to rational people here.

I find it even funnier God accepts Medicaid, You’d think he’d be running a tighter ship than to accept a welfare program.
An aside: doctors actually tend to like Medicare even at the lower reimbursement rates for one simple reason: they PAY. The minimal paperwork is done, sent to the processing center, they get a check. There is usually very little fight over a benefit.

So, Michele Bachmann claims that Barack Obama fears her, and that he’d be afraid to face her in a debate? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Just back from KY to visit my mother, who, despite the fact that my brother is gay, was livid over NY’s legalization of gay marriage (thanks, I will have another beer). The bumper sticker I hated most was “Don’t be a girly man. Don’t vote Democrat.”

You are aware that we are already in technical default, and the only thing keeping the bills paid is a rapidly shortening bag of tricks …

Because when I think of “the epitome of manliness”, Mitch and Rand Paul are the first two dudes that come to mind, lemme tell ya.

The Republicans are free to take the votes of all non-girly men as long as the Democrats get all the girly types, men or women.

And indeed, unless they are pediatricians, I’ll wager a majority of their patients have Medicare. That’s some nice, dependable income.

My prediction:
The Republicans will be intransigent on the debt limit up to the very last minute. Throughout this time they will have gotten on the record – and already have – politically toxic Democratic concessions (e.g. Medicare cuts) that they can brandish in the next election.
Obama’s ultimate “victory” on the debt limit issue will be a one day story because nothing bad will have happened and the issue is too abstruse for most voters anyway. The Democratic concessions will not vanish since they can be effectively portrayed as a hit against seniors and others.
The Senate Democrats and Obama shouldn’t have bothered with negotiations because the Republicans weren’t interested in solving a problem. They were interested in gaining political advantage.

Speaking of Mr. McConnell, I read a quote last night that seems apt:
“A Great Empire and little minds go ill together”.—James Burke, 1775
McConnell always looked and sounded to me like a koala. Though perhaps that is insulting to koalas. (On the other hand Stephanie Miller and crew have branded him brilliantly as a lettuce munching tortoise.) Tortoise or koala—what a venal, corrupt idiot!

this is to be expected. they’re called “politicians” and not “engineers”, after all.

Stoked for Tomic-Djokovic. Maybe the kid will win a set. You never know.

When are the Dems going to get down, dirty, and effective? McConnell needs to be forcefully OUTED yesterday. The ensuing scandal would eat up some media time and totally discredit him. I know this is a stupid thing, but hey we play by the Beltway/MSM rules, yes?
Where is the Dem equivalent of Breitbart? Why isn’t there one?
