The Shocking Conspiracy Against FranziaPundit
By mistermix May 14th, 2011
Since her first blog was down, Althouse was forced to blog from a previously undisclosed location:
You know, I’m beginning to suspect that there’s some behind-the-scenes campaign to report my blog as abusive. People who hate/fear the Althouse blog could make a loud noise to Google.
Back in 2004, 98% of Google employees gave money to Democrats.
Great theory, one little problem: Atrios was down for two days in the same blogger outage. And she does realize that Blogger is a free service provided by Google, doesn’t she? I mean, she’s a moocher, if not a looter.

Yeah, I think there is a conspiracy to prevent me from getting my 50 pageviews from people I know each day, and 50 pageviews from google searches a day. The Man is trying to keep me down.
Damn that woman is dumb.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:11 am
Many sites that I read regularly were complaining that their sites were down. She should get out more and see it was everywhere.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:15 am
Althouse is sober enough to type? Color me surprised.
.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:17 am
@cathyx:
She needs to think outside the wine box.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:18 am
She even started a “Save Muh Blawg” Facebook page. Self-important much?
May 14th, 2011 at 9:19 am
@cathyx: Yes. A whole bunch of the blogs I read were down—Cab Drollery, Southern Beale, Driftglass, Brilliant at Breakfast, No More Mr. Nice Blog, Hullabaloo among them. I had trouble trying to leave comments and my password wasn’t being recognized. Althouse is paranoid.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:20 am
I’m eagerly awaiting her explanation of why Google employees’ political donations are relevant – isn’t the site exactly the sort of “private property” that teahadis and their fellow travelers love so much? (see also Ron “I wouldn’t have freed the slaves” Paul’s comments this week)
May 14th, 2011 at 9:21 am
So obviously she doesn’t read any other blogs or she would have known the problem was systemic and not personal. Interesting data point.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:24 am
Althouse should set up a conservative blog platform where all the con blawggers can go to be free from the tyranny of Google. Then Anonymous could hack in and delete months and months of post that they inevitably would have failed to back up, giving us a new reason to point and laugh. Not that we ever seem to run out of reasons.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:27 am
Turns out that the real factoid is “98% of the dollars donated from Google employees went to Democrats”. The distinction between the two is left as an exercise for the reader.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:31 am
@Matt:
Combined with his son’s blathering (“Obamacare will require doctors to be sold down the river”), I guess that means that daddy is OK with junior being dragged away in chains…
May 14th, 2011 at 9:33 am
Hilariously, Donald Douglas has a lede in which he is sure Althouse was “taken down”.
Who does he think she is, bin Laden?
May 14th, 2011 at 9:33 am
I am thankful that none of my law professors were as idiotically closeminded as she and that Legal Insurrection dork are.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:33 am
Althouse is too cheap to move her screed to a paid hosting service and too drunk to run it if she did.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:40 am
@dmsilev:
I’m sure Megan McArdle could explain it to you from her kitchen.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:42 am
Back up as of 9:20
May 14th, 2011 at 9:42 am
Clearly Blogger owes her a living.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:43 am
Is anyone surprised? Paranoia, resentment and constant complaints of victimhood are what these people are all about.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:44 am
She should switch to Bing, where the search results for “professor winebox” are a lot more accurate than Google’s.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:46 am
Net Neutrality for me, but not for thee.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:51 am
@PeakVT:
I think you mean “then they could delete any posts that contradicted their current claims and if they were challenged on it pretend they had been hacked by Anonymous.” A really clever hack would be to insert fake old posts saying things that would make them look like RINOs.
May 14th, 2011 at 9:56 am
@MikeJ
It would really be a shame if Le Donalde came over here to comment… I’m just popping out to buy some popcorn
/back soon
May 14th, 2011 at 10:04 am
Every blog on Blogger was down for 20.5 hours, including mine. Most took it in stride. She took it in Chianti.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:04 am
Narcissist much? Shit, even the nice lady who runs Budget Bytes was down, and she was a millionty times more gracious about it.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:06 am
@Jazz Superluminar: Aw shit. I usually keep referers turned off. Better turn ‘em back on and hit the link.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:08 am
@Mustang Bobby:
I thought it was Mad Dog 20/20. Oh, that’s right… she’s a mad dog.
This is what happens when you drink and try to blog.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:09 am
Ok, hhmmmmmmpp, grinding noise I[‘m] trying to work into the general mindset. First clearpass effort.
Ow. Which random text scrambler should I be using for this particular woman? I’m not that familiar with the beast to know for sure.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:14 am
Back in 2004, 98% of Google employees gave money to Democrats.
Of the total political contributions made by Google employees in 2004, 98% went to Democrats.
Can you spot the difference between these two sentences? Most eighth graders, and almost all adults not drowning in wine boxes, can.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:15 am
@dmsilev: 98% of the political donations from Google employees went to Demoncrats in 2004. Hmm…
So why has Althouse been supporting such an obvious socialist organization by running her blog off their servers? For years! Should we assume Google brainwashed her?
May 14th, 2011 at 10:17 am
A three whine-box mega event in Althouse Gulch. I wouldn’t want to be that head in the morning….ever.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:17 am
@Mustang Bobby: Well done.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:18 am
Often wondered if she was certifiable, drunk, or just plain stupid. Now I realize they aren’t mutually exclusive.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:18 am
@MikeJ
Don’t you read LGM? Some of threads there where Donald appeared are classics…
May 14th, 2011 at 10:28 am
@Montysano: Hmmm. Wasn’t Facebook caught hiring Burson Marsteller to plant disparaging stories about Google. Kind of convenient that FB would agree to have a page for her, dontcha think.
There’s so many conspiracies here that my tinfoil hat is melting.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:33 am
@dmsilev:
I flagged that, too. It’s sad that innumeracy is so common in journalism.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:37 am
@Jazz Superluminar: Yeah, that’s why I said I needed to make sure the refer from here shows up. Our local trolls are getting used up. Perhaps we could arrange a swap.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:49 am
Meh. A conservative advancing the idea that conservatives are always victims of mean liberals. Nothing new.
What is impressive is that she thinks her shitty little blog would even get on the Google-machine radar.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:52 am
Their inability to rationalize reality is only matched by their lack of understanding of technology.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:56 am
You’d think that she’d have noticed that the outage affected Atrios as well, but no…she’s in her own little paranoid world of wingtard cretinism.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:58 am
Believing that there is a conspiracy to affect her blog only helps push her agenda. Her readers will eat it up.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:01 am
@shortstop:
This woman graduated from law school, and she can’t tell the difference between those to sentences?
Say what?
The stupid. It burns.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:02 am
Yeah, people’s problems with the English language are pretty funny, aren’t they.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:12 am
A gossip blog I read, Crazy Days and Nights, was also down during that time period.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:13 am
@Jazz Superluminar:
They certainly r.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:14 am
I bet the red lights overlooking roads are out to get her too. Damn commies.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:15 am
This is dumb, even for her.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:15 am
To be fair, Althouse’s paranoia has its roots:
Link
May 14th, 2011 at 11:20 am
Hey, my blog was down too—all of blogger was down. I still haven’t gotten two of Thursday’s posts back. And while I am a little annoyed, I find this service remarkable and it’s FREE. So I am willing to forgive their little upgrade glitch and hope there is some wonderful new feature that comes with it.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:33 am
I’ve written like three comments that haven’t been published at all. And
none of them attacked ABL. WTF? I need to open that box of whine…
May 14th, 2011 at 11:37 am
OMFG.
Ann starts a Facebook page, Save Ann Althouse’s Blog.
Look at this wild and ignorant charge from her first post there!
The staff at Blogger have dumped Ann Althouse’s blog. If you are one who look forward to their daily dose of commentary, wit, and photography from Althouse and Meade, then like this page and let’s put some pressure on them to put it back up.
And other people repeat Ann Althouse’s fabrications:
Unbelievable! The Wisconsin debacle has poisoned everything. She’s not even widely identified as a “right-wing” blogger! But since she was key in the union fight, now she’s been targeted by Google. The idea that they’d read her blog and conclude that it’s spam is stark raving mad.
Maybe Google should sue Althouse?
May 14th, 2011 at 11:45 am
@AlphaLiberal
I am shocked that people would want some representation of reality. Wjen they have to face up to what “the people” want, it is hardly surprising that the majority would dismiss the stupid as presented here, when there are decent alternatives available.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:56 am
It’s true. The Galtians were smiting the moochers and parasites of the system. Ann just never thought she was one.
May 14th, 2011 at 11:57 am
@AlphaLiberal:
Heh. That’s every bit as true as her belief that the shutdown of every Blogger blog was aimed at her personally.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:01 pm
@Barb (formerly Gex): No, no. Althouse is not a conservative. Maybe in Madison, but not much of anywhere else.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:02 pm
I’ve commented over there for a long time but have mostly left these past months. I used to enjoy sparring with the cons and trying to reason with them. Now they, and Althouse, are basically insane.
Althouse is a narcissist, drinking in the attention.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:06 pm
@Oligonicella: Of course not. Her opinions on issues just happen to line up with the policies of conservative politicians. She just happens to link to, and be linked from, right wing blogs. Things like this are just a coincidence.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:08 pm
@AlphaLiberal: What exactly did she do in the union fight? Blogged a couple of times? Key, my ass.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:11 pm
@Omnes Omnibus: Her opinions don’t line up. She presents herself very ambiguously on purpose. Look at her final decisions, not conservative.
But, don’t take this mild rejection wrong, I ain’t not fan.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:12 pm
@Nutella: Yeah, it’s part of her narcissist ego trip, that the labor struggles must highlight her.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:13 pm
@Oligonicella: I would say that she is a conservative who plays coy in order to maintain her “independent” cred.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:15 pm
Well, Ann and her minions want to get some Google tech support person fired.
At the next secret meeting of the Vast Google/Labor Conspiracy to Get Ann Althouse, I will recommend we get her fired.
Look over your shoulder, Ann. Keep an eye out for one of our black helicopters.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:15 pm
@Omnes Omnibus: Yeah, Ann is pretty conservative in a lot of ways. Mainly, in a superficial way. She slags Obama constantly even though she claims to have voted for him.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:19 pm
@Oligonicella: Tomato, tomato. She’s useless by any interpretation.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:24 pm
@Omnes Omnibus: And she looks exactly the opposite to me. Like I said, purposefully ambiguous. And I gotta say, this is looking pretty damned paranoid.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:24 pm
@AlphaLiberal: If she is on Walker’s side in the union fight, things here in Madison may make her feel a bit uncomfortable. Even in a neighborhood as wealthy as the University Heights area where she lives, windows are filled with anti-Walker and pro-union signs and cars are plastered with bumper stickers along the same lines. She could, indeed, feel surrounded and put upon. Oh, well. Is living about a mile and a half from her far enough away that I don’t need to consider her my neighbor?
May 14th, 2011 at 12:27 pm
@Omnes Omnibus: The east side is similarly festooned with signs of citizen outrage against Walker’s abuses.
Althouse has no depth to her positions beyond that of the typical middle school student council candidate. She doesn’t like Democrats because she thinks the men are wimps (and the women are mannish).
Frankly, I’m embarrassed that she is associated with the UW. Honestly, I am. Her NYT piece recently was terrible. She embraces torture.
Oh, and she’s a dittohead for Rush Limbaugh!! (Lush Windbag). She follows a drug addict and thrills when he mentions her name.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:49 pm
@dmsilev: thank you! I was sitting here wondering how it’s possible that 98% of google employees are civic minded and engaged enough to be donating to elections, regardless of who they donated to.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:50 pm
@Oligonicella: Paranoid? Check. Narcissistic? Check. Irresponsible? Check. Slanderous? Check.
Because we have nothing better to do than start an astroturf campaign against Althouse.
Oh well, I’m protesting at 2:30 so need to house clean now.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:51 pm
Ginning up a fake controversy to cover for a foul post on the Dean’s search is an epic low.
May 14th, 2011 at 12:52 pm
This is epic. Regardless of your source of employment or who your employer is, whether it be private or public, can you imagine posting info about the job candidates and then asking your readers to “comment?”
Can you imagine doing this at your place of work?
May 14th, 2011 at 12:53 pm
@Suffern ACE: Great comment from hamletta in response to a troll last month, that was good enough for me to write down:
May 14th, 2011 at 12:57 pm
@John Cole: I know she is tenured, but I cannot imagine that she will have a good working relationship with the incoming dean.
May 14th, 2011 at 1:01 pm
Here’s a link to a cached version of the post. I’m sure she wishes this would go away.

Let’s see . . . “Althouse”! Wow, I’m one square away from Burson-Marsteller Bingo!
May 14th, 2011 at 2:58 pm
She honestly feels she’s that important to anyone???

May 14th, 2011 at 3:44 pm
@Johnny Coelacanth: Regardless of what any of the commenters said, putting that up there and calling for comments shows incredibly poor judgment. Wow.
@Omnes Omnibus: I can’t imagine that she could. I wouldn’t be surprised if all 3 declined the position, after something like that, and i think it would make a person think twice about applying for a position at the law school in the future. (But then what do I know?)
May 14th, 2011 at 5:10 pm
Good lord, Althouse and her followers (all 3 of them) are complete dipshits.

Welp there goes the neighborhood…. This post just got Krugman’d!
lols!

May 14th, 2011 at 6:26 pm
@dmsilev: I didn’t know google employees were that bright!
May 14th, 2011 at 6:37 pm
Oh my God are you fucking kidding me? Hell yeah Atrios was down. Digby was down. Jonathan Bernstein was down. I was down, but of course no one reads my shitty little blog. But yeah EVERYONE WAS DOWN. Jesus fucking Christ what a bunch of whiny assed titty babies. IT’S ALWAYS ABOUT YOU, ISN”T IT?
Jesus. Get a fucking life you idiots.
May 14th, 2011 at 7:48 pm
I have read only tiny bits and pieces of Althouse over the years (I admit to being fascinated when she got engaged to her Number One Fan)(did they actually get married? Are they still married?) but don’t know her whole story. I always see snarky comments about her drinking…is there any actual basis for that or is it more of the general bloggers-covered-in-cheetos-crumbs stuff?
May 14th, 2011 at 8:14 pm
Other explanation … ghost of bin Laden.
May 14th, 2011 at 8:26 pm
Other explanation … ghost of bin Laden.
May 14th, 2011 at 8:26 pm
Ann Althouse is a conservative in Wisconsin,not “only” Madison. She’s very far to the right for, say, Milwaukee or Wauwatosa or West Allis or South Milwaukee.
She isn’t just a “Madison” loon. Although my (late) friend was a student of hers, and never thought she was right… Until I showed her.
May 14th, 2011 at 8:27 pm
Would this be a “such is blogging” moment or a “hoocoodanode” moment? I really can’t decide.
May 14th, 2011 at 8:48 pm
Also, too, nobody could have predicted…
May 14th, 2011 at 8:55 pm
the worst part of statements like this is that one day the gov’t could do such a thing but no one would believe it because of too much crying wolf like this.
May 14th, 2011 at 10:07 pm
@RSA: Most conservatives won’t see anything but the “98%” “dollars” “to Democrats” associated with Google. They haven’t the brain cells to work out the nuances of English language! Their choices of “leaders” shows that!
May 15th, 2011 at 11:07 am
