Why not?

I got nothing else to say, so I will just give you this- a cat in a banana split costume eating a banana:

Someone planned, shopped for the raw materials, then made a banana split costume for their cat.
That’s mindblowing.
You just aren’t going to see that in North Korea.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
I’m just gonna say this and take the punches. Persian cat faces freak me out.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:27 pm
@BGinCHI:
We’re #1! We’re #1!
October 29th, 2010 at 4:27 pm
Ok, something weird just happened…the whole front page is missing, like, everything! No sidebars, recent posts etc I feel lost in a blank wilderness wtf?

Here is my closing argument in favor of voting Democratic for those who are undecided or Democrats who are not yet sure if they are going to vote. Please forward to any folks you know who fit into either of those categories.
Winning Progressive

@BGinCHI:
That’s actually somewhat less disturbing than the probability that you can purchase a pre-made banana split costume for your cat.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:28 pm
@shortstop: On planes or all the time?
October 29th, 2010 at 4:29 pm
@shortstop:
Is that what they call them? I’ve never been able to appreciate that look. But then, I don’t appreciate bulldogs either.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:29 pm
Proof of Life.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:29 pm
@BGinCHI: Naw. They bought it at a pet boutique filled with row after row after row of appalling costumes and outfits with which to cover the beautiful fur coats provided by nature to dogs and cats.
Like that creepy place on Clark in Andersonville.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:29 pm
@licensed to kill time: That’s what happens when a cat eats a banana.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:29 pm
Very cute kitty. Two of my cats prefer to gnaw on the outside banana peel if there’s a bunch sitting on the counter.
Can’t decide what I’m going to do next Tuesday evening, re: election returns. May just monitor Balloon Juice and let my emotional chips fall where they may. I don’t want to feel despondent like I did in 2004 when Kerry conceded the election.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
This one is better.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
Somewhere out there, that video qualifies for Rule 34.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
@Moses2317: Holy Moses!
I expected after the click to just see Palin or Angle’s face.
Worth 1K words, really.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:31 pm
Where’s YOUR cat? Tunch pic please…
October 29th, 2010 at 4:31 pm
@BGinCHI: You consistently crack me up.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:31 pm
I’m waiting for Sarah’s tweets on the bombs that were on cargo planes. Her insight is always amusing.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
@The Other Chuck: But the Ed Show told me we don’t make things in America anymore.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
@Laura W.:
I like how the darker one had to stop and wash at the end… OCD?
October 29th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
@shortstop: There’s another one next to the Trader Joe’s on Lincoln!
A’ville is my hood (east of B’way, actually, but you get it), and I’m thinking due to our demographic there are a lot of dresser uppers.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
@Moses2317: My brutally honest comment; very, very weak sauce.
At best, you are preaching to the choir. You need to make a better case than that.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
@Laura W.: Tunch doesn’t get that much exercise in a year.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
My favorite cat video: Pinky, the lovely cat

@JPL: Xtremist bombers cant take down Amer’n freedom & thrifty 2 dy delivery; Obama, why U a FedEx cstmr?
October 29th, 2010 at 4:36 pm
@Dennis SGMM:
That video still makes me cry with laughter (sorry to all you guys who are cupping your nads just thinking about it).
October 29th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
@Laura W.: Those cats weren’t fast as lightning. But they did have expert timing.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
@BGinCHI: Is that place on Lincoln for animals or for people? I’m going to TJ’s tonight, so I’ll have a look.
We lived in Andersonville for years back in the day when it was mostly old straight people and young lesbians. That creepy dog costume shop was already there, so don’t blame the boyz. Now we’re in Buena Park where you can get shot for dressing your canine the wrong way, but the housing prices are super groovy.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
If KimJong-Il decided that all his cats needed to be dressed as banana splits, you better believe you’d see it in North Korea. Dancing the macarena if need be!
October 29th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
@The Moar You Know: If I were you, I’d be more specific with my criticism if I wanted it to be taken seriously.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
@Laura W.:
This is why I am a cat lady.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:42 pm
My parents had cats when I was in High School. I think that what put me off of cat ownership was their kitty “Fexil” (Not misspelled, that’s what they named him). Fexil was black with a white chest and paws. His idea of a friendly greeting was to run up one of your legs and down the other. He was so mean that he survived being hit by the neighbor’s SS 396 Chevelle. He clawed his way through the screen door so many times that my parents gave up replacing it. When I half-humorously suggested that we simply drop Fexil off in Barstow they argued that it would only be worse when he made it back.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
@BGinCHI:
Huh. First time ‘move to North Korea’ got a check in the ‘good idea’ column.
Well done!
October 29th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
@The Moar You Know: I ask this seriously – what is weak about it, and how would you phrase it differently?
October 29th, 2010 at 4:53 pm
i don’t much cotton to schmooshed faced cats and the costume is just criminal. do you think that cat is on thorazine? lmao
October 29th, 2010 at 4:53 pm
@shortstop: I think people, but I haven’t ventured in.
I don’t do Halloween.
Bar on Buena. Best reason to live round there.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:53 pm
@Dennis SGMM: At least he was hit by a classic fucking muscle car.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:54 pm
@BGinCHI: BonB is one of our favorite summer sidewalk hangouts. We always take the (uncostumed) dog.
October 29th, 2010 at 4:58 pm
Damn. That cat reminds me of a girlfriend I had along time ago.
All lick, no swallow.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
This Persian cat business has reminded me of a deceased friend who had three Persians in a row named Koala. The first one died and he got the second and named him Koala, too. That one eventually died and the process was repeated. Don’t you guys think that’s weird? I think that’s weird.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:01 pm
O/T: What’s up with all the trolls (none of whom I’ve ever seen around here before, but maybe that’s me) on the Jonah Goldberg thread claiming none of us understood JG’s piece?
Sock puppets?
Goldberg’s minions of the night?
Of course Goldberg is saying the CIA doesn’t work like it does on TV or in the movies, but he’s also taking it for granted that Assange deserves to be killed for what he’s doing. ZERO fucking analysis of the leaks or the leaked material. No serious consideration of anything substantive.
Man, I hate those assholes for their stupidity as much as for their inhumanity.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:04 pm
Is no one else seeing this site missing a lot of stuff? I’ve tried it on Opera 10.63 as well as Firefox 3.6.12 and on both it is missing all the sidebars and recent posts thingy and, well everything that’s usually on the sides. All I have is the header and footer and a huge amount of blank space.
Is it just me?
eta: it happened right after John put up this post with the kitty video…
October 29th, 2010 at 5:05 pm
Mush faced kitteh eating a mushnana, wearing a mushnana split costume. Epic. Cole, you are seriously bored.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:10 pm
@Laura W.: Hey, you’re back! Stick around, eh?
October 29th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
chmurka’s depression for John Cole… and bigger pouches. Cheers!
October 29th, 2010 at 5:16 pm
@BGinCHI: If Goldberg really felt that way he’d fly overseas and confront Assange himself. Of course, he’d have to bring his mommy with him.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:16 pm
@shortstop: How many of his cats did you have to poison before he stopped doing that?
October 29th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
But I was hoping for a bunny with a pancake on it’s head.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:19 pm
@shortstop:
*shudders
I went in there once. Once.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:27 pm
Even moar cuteitude: a horse playing with a ball. (via Geekosystem)
October 29th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
What’s even weirder is that when I clicked the link to the next post Voting While Black is Fraud, everything looks normal again. But refreshing the main page or this tab or even restarting FF and loading the site from scratch? I get the Big Empty Wasteland.
I realize no one is interested in this but me, but it is decidedly odd. I’ve cleared my cache and asst other tricks but nothing will load the front page correctly. I’m just not used to seeing Balloon Juice so nekkidy looking.
October 29th, 2010 at 5:48 pm
Said the drunkard to the thief
October 29th, 2010 at 5:52 pm
Why is this stuck in my head? Is this somehow related to my quitting smoking this week?
October 29th, 2010 at 6:19 pm
Why did an “affordable cremation” ad pop up while I was watching the cute kitty? Aren’t the ads somehow supposed to be related to the subject…...or web site? That was just creepy.

You may appreciate this poem by Thomas Lynch:

@South of I-10:
Possibly, but it’s also a great fucking song.
