Oh for fuck’s sake.
I actually yelled that out loud when I watched this video. By way of background, Obama has been stumping for various candidates and using his “Republicans drove the car into the ditch” metaphor. Analogy? Simile? Rhetoric? Kenyan Crazytalk? At any rate, here’s what he’s been saying:
He said Republicans had driven the economy into a ditch and then stood by and criticized while Democrats pulled it out. [That’s what she said!! What?! I may be 36, but I have the mind of a six year-old.]
Now that progress has been made, he said, “we can’t have special interests sitting shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We don’t mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back.”
And here’s a compilation of the reaction from the asshats at Fox News:
These dumb ass race-baiting twatwaffles with their faux concern-trolling and faux outrage… I swear it makes my brain ache. “My, my, my, President Colored Man just told all us here Republicans that we can’t drive the car. We gotsta sit in the back. You know what that means, y’all? It means that we’re all Rosa Parks, and Obama, our evil KenyoMuslim massa’ is going straight Jim Crow on our asses. I think I feel a little light-headed. Somebody get me mah smellin’ salts. I feel a case of the vapors comin’ on.”
I really wish Fox News–the entire damn network–would die in an excruciatingly hot fire. That network, in my esteemed opinion, is single-handedly ruining the fabric of this country. So you know what I say? LET’S SET THEM ON FIRE! GO GO GO!!
But watch that there video first, so you can get properly outraged. I’ll be standing at the exit, handing out matches and cans of gasoline.

You’re exactly right here, but at some point in time, if the leadership isn’t taking a forceful enough stand, if they aren’t vociferous in their criticism of these know-nothing obstructionist frauds, then at some point, it’s up to the citizenry to start pushing the message out. Who knows what form that takes exactly, but the era of letting these assholes get away with playing by their own fucking rules without it being called out for what it is needs to be put to bed. People need to not only call out liars as liars, but connect the dots of why they are lying and how these lies are no different than the previous lies they fooled the populace with.
It’s getting rather infuriating reading comments day after day about the inevitability of the Village fluffing whatever narratives Republicans will be pushing after the election (win or lose), as though just because it’s a thing that will happen means that we just have to sit back and let it be as effective as possible. Or that there is no way to challenge these clowns and alter the narrative in any way.
I mean, we are talking about a political party now that has done everything short of issue a formal declaration telling their candidates and members to avoid debating their positions, to avoid potentially “hostile” news outlets, to avoid any kind of public event that might lead to them being confronted over their increasingly extreme views. These people have entirely forgotten what it’s like to have an opposition that is actually willing and gleeful about rhetorically punching them in the fucking face, that has no qualms about saying “No, you are a liar and a fraud, and we will expose you for what you are.” They literally do not have those skills any more; they’ve failed to impart them in generation after generation, instead just telling them to stay within the comforts of their conservative bubble because no way will those pesky Democrats be able to reach them in there.
Well, it’s time to tear that fucking bubble to the ground, set the rubble on fire, and then piss on the smoldering ashes. Let’s get it started right now.

Sorry about that being all caps, it’s just that, I LOVE YOU, ANGRY BLACK LADY!!!!!!!!!!
Oooop, did it again…

I just voted here in Dallas, Texas. Straight Democratic (hi, Molly!). Then I went through and hit Libertarian on all the other races where there was no Democrat to vote for. There may have been one Green in there.

ABL,
Great post, you need to stay after you’re done house-sitting.
And thanks for your kind remarks over at my place from last night. Coming from someone with your passion and enthusiasm for life, the universe, and everything, I am humbled. Thanks again.

Interesting poll out from Marist/McClatchy:

@Punchy: That’s awesome! A much-needed laugh.

ABL, I thought you might enjoy this.

@Redshift: So if I understand this correctly, the hateful thing was that he said “back” as part of a transportation metaphor, and if you change it from a car to a bus it would have racist connotations, which someone black would complain about, but because he’s black no one is complaining about his use of a different metaphor, which shows that black people are the real racists?
This is SO MUCH worse than “lipstick on a pig.” It’d be like hearing a politician say “Next week is going to be a bloodbath for the Democrats,” then saying that “week” is similar to “month,” and “month” in proximity to “blood” suggests menstruation, and OMG if you said it about a woman you would be such a sexist!! 1one! outrage!

@Joseph Nobles:
When I lived in Dallas, I was in some goofy district that must have been gerrymandered to be 98% Republican. There were like two Democrats on the entire ballot, but the Libertarians had a candidate in every single race.

Re: Fox News ratings.
While they might appear low compared to “The Office” or “Matlock”, it isn’t just the cable channel that’s spewing all the poison. A bigger concern I think is all the local Fox newstations, which serve as local platforms for the national cable channel.
Add in the influence Fox and the local Fox affiliates have on their competitors, and I’d say their influence is quite dramatic, in every corner of the country.
The problem is far bigger than just the cable channel.

I know I risk the ire of ABL, but “twatwaffle” is the intellectual property of one of the funniest, meanest and most ornery commenters at RumpRoast — Oblomova

Twatwaffles? LOL, good one, good one!
I like this angry sistah. ;)

doesnt mean they wont vote for him.
i, personally, am going to wait to commit seppuku until the cellphone only people vote.
“likely” voters are entirely people with landlines, because cellphones dont answer robocalls.
consider Tancredo polling in Colorado, where i exist.
1 in 4 American households has no landline.
it is my hypothesis that these households vote heavily democratic, and and are severly underpolled by current pollstah methodology.
That is 25% of the electorate.

@Angry
i think you misunderstand the purpose of FOXnews, Breitbart, etc.
They are not actually trying to recruit black and brown and girlstyle and millenial voters……they know that isnt working.
Like putting Palin in the VP was supposed to deliver the XX vote, and Michael Steele was supposed to deliver the black vote…..epic fails.
They are trying to prove they aren’t racists with the inversion argument– “WE are not the racists, blacks and browns are the racists against whites.”
It is part of their victimhood/inferiority complex.
they spend a lot of energy fooling themselves into believing the tea party/GOP is not actually old, white and christian…..when it purely is.

You eat them, too?

I’m not sure what FOX is trying to do. I guess you need to dive into the numbers on their marketing analysis.
I do not think many people other than the bitter white Sore Winner demographic takes this nonsense seriously. So this approach is probably not a sustainable business model for FOX.
It is like they are mining a finite resource, which is the dying older bitter white Sore Winner group, which I am not sure is even a majority of the older white demographic. Most of them have enough common sense, and insufficient selfishness to go for this stuff, or at least not go for it with much enthusiasm.
Then there is the infirm and scared older crowd, and the demented. But they are not enough.
So, think how mine operator maximizes the value of a mineral reserve of a known extent. They gotta be thinking like that.
Only other comment is that ABL seems excessively polite about it.
Ash Can
@jl: I’m sure the PTB at Fox figure they’ll have made their pile and retired by the time their demographic dies off. And if the less senior people working for Fox are left holding the ratings bag, who cares? Let them come up with their own scam.

i’m beginning to think that the “both sides do it” meme is thanks to our comment contributers like “change” who spout this pap on every website looking to spread their concern trolldem all across the blogosphere.
my feelings about Fox could probably be summed up by that Samuel Jackson line from “A Time to Kill”…. “yeah they deserved to die and I hope they burn in hell!”. because these morally baseless bastards sell fear for a living and sow hate and discontent every minute of every hour of every day. Other than that, they’re some righteous dudes.

@FlipYrWhig: And (as one of my wingnut friend’s Facebook friends went on to say) if Bush had said anything like this, everyone would have been screaming “racist!” (so apparently, all the blatantly racist things wingnuts say don’t make them racist, or something.)

“dumb ass race-baiting twatwaffles” is my new go-to description of Faux News and all its neurologically challenged acolytes.

I think one of those opening fissures in the ocean floor you mentioned in the upper thread, would suit them nicely.
Or maybe having to spend time with Ivy, the bitch-face designer from this season’s Project Runway.

Best. Get a friend who’s African-Am, ask him to dress up in a black turtle neck and beret. Send same photo to Fox News with a screech about ‘a Black Panther intimidating voters by standing around!”
Good times.
PIGL
@change: Then we’d all be on the same page. Except not quite, because our diarist is probably using hyperbole, whereas the other side probably isn’t.
PIGL
@change: you know what? You may be on to something there. It’s all those socialism rays….socialist mind control. Cause it sure isn’t any legislation.
Luckily, my tinfoil hat renders me immune to the palest pink death rays emmanating from the limousine “liberals” in congress.
I, however, am an actual socialist, and what would befall Murdoch and his Empire if I were Chairman of the Party is best left unspoken.
PIGL
@jl: that’s an interesting thought. But I think the real dividend is the leverage they get in other media, who drive the agenda for them. For Murdoch’s subsidy of his empire, he effectively controls the entire media enterprise in the Anglo speaking world.
Which is why if I were President, their executive jets would be tragically dropping out of the sky.
There is no above the line remedy any more for the damage these people are doing.
Mnemosyne
@change:
You mean like when Ann Coulter said that she wanted Timothy McVeigh to blow up the New York Times building?
Mnemosyne
@Mnemosyne:
Oh, and I forgot — Coulter then proceeded to defend her words after 9/11 and insist that she didn’t regret them.
Typical bully — you can dish it out but you can’t take it.

All I can say is thank the Baby J for Dana Perino’s invaluable insights. What an effin’ simpleton.
Clearly, Obama needs to apologize and let Republicans ride shotgun, otherwise the tantrum will continue. Besides, given how his race is going in Nevada, I’m pretty sure Harry Reid will gladly take a seat in the back, as long as he gets a seat. And, I’d guess there would be lots of other Democratic volunteers.
The most merciful outcome might be for Obama and Biden to resign. Pelossi can take over and be impeached and removed from office (Communism is its own reward) and the Supremes can magically find a special election in their originalist copy of the Constitution. Ben Nelson and a half a dozen other conservadems can switch parties and caucus with the GOP. Then, with a Republican president and both houses in GOP hands, we can all sit back and enjoy the spectacle of them blaming the implosion of the United States on Bill Clinton and Al Gore.
Surely, that would be preferable to this slow death by a million tiny pricks (NPI).

@morzer: You noticed that, too, eh? I think he has a crush on her and, in the time-honored tradition of fourth-grade boys everywhere, this is how he’s wooing her.
Sigh. I can’t watch it. I just cannot. It would make me too stabby and head-asplodey and all that. There is something especially galling about such a lily-white bunch of people bleating about racism.
