Apparently what it takes to be a modern teabagger is a complete lack of historical understanding, no concept of how government actually works, a total sense of entitlement, and a set of balls bigger than the state of Texas:
Tim Profitt — the former Rand Paul volunteer who stomped on the head of a MoveOn activist — told told local CBS station WKYT that he wants an apology from the woman he stomped and that she started the whole thing.
“I don’t think it’s that big of a deal,” Profitt said. “I would like for her to apologize to me to be honest with you.”
“She’s a professional at what she does,” Profitt added, “and I think when all the facts come out, I think people will see that she was the one that initiated the whole thing.”
Profitt also blamed the incident on his back pain.
If you thought the last two years were stupid, you’re going to love the next two years.
BTW- I am sending MoveOn a significant contribution because of this assault.

I’ve been really surprised that MoveOn has not capitalized on this incident in any way. I am on about 3 of their mailing lists plus Twitter, plus I follow RepubliCorp on Twitter — that’s the group Valle was promoting at the debates — and I’m really surprised that there has been *nothing* about one of their people in any of the feeds, e-mails, etc.
You just know if this were a right-wing group there would be an endless barrage of fundraising pleas and other solicitations out of the incident.
It also shows how removed MoveOn is from the Democratic establishment. Not one fundraising e-mail using her name, saying “did you hear what happened? Stop the Tea Party thugs” or anything.
Very interesting to me.

Don’t count on him getting convicted. A huge man beat and stomped a female army reservist at a cracker barrel in GA in front of her small daughter. He was allow to plead to a misdemeanor sentenced to 6 months even after he said it is sometimes OK to beat women and he didn’t think he did anything wrong.

not to beat a dead horse, but this mindset is what drives most of evangelical America. If I end up on the short end of the stick, it must be the “fault” of someone else because I am saved and thus live under the perpetual grace of god.
It gets translated into society thusly: (1) If I am successful, it is evidence of my inherent goodness being rewarded; (2) if I am unsuccessful, then my inherent goodness is being thwarted by the undeserving other.
Everything is viewed through this prism.

@jl: No, the media will explain how they have been driven to it by the frenzied political climate caused by all candidates and parties, without differentiating which one excites the hate. It will be the Broder-pox-on-both-houses narrative. Remember, McVeigh was a right wing terrorist; rudolph, same; irs pilot, same. They choose to make the narrative bipartisan so as not to advantage the dems, which — as small as it may be — has a group trying to push the party into an anti-corporatist direction on key issues affecting the middle class.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina legislator is apologizing after a campaign flier meant to tout his support for U.S. troops featured a photo of World War II re-enactors dressed as German soldiers.
The political consulting firm that produced the campaign piece for Democratic state Rep. Tim Spear said Wednesday it is solely responsible for the mistake.
The campaign planned to send the flier to about 10,000 homes in Spear’s coastal district. It said the legislator is “Covering Our Soldiers’ Backs.” But the photo showed the backs of four advancing re-enactors dressed in German army uniforms.
Account executive Mike Brown at Washington, D.C.-based MSHC Partners said the firm’s art department thought the photo captured Spear’s message, but no one noticed it showed the wrong kind of troops.

I haven’t seen anyone on BJ comment on the race for Iowa State Secretary of Agriculture so here is a link to an article in the dead tree edition of the Atlantic. The race is interesting because it pits a big/industrial ag candidate (the incumbent) against a small organic dairy farmer who believes in sustainable farming. I could not find any polling on it but in the context of the article it sounds like the race is competitive.

The only question I have is, when she wins the lawsuit, are any of the defendants going to be able to pay the judgment? Between the video and his admission, I can’t see any viable defense for him or the campaign — not so sure whether Paul personally can be held liable for the acts of an agent for the campaign. The sooner she files, the better (particularly if she can do it this week), but by the time she has a judgment, the campaign will likely have spent all its money and Profitt probably has nothing even now. So these guys will probably get away with it.

Doesn’t this actually prove that Maddow is, unlike most pundits, actually a journalist of some skill? This is a one-to-one, to me at least. When you vocally oppose the Civil Rights Act, what element are you inevitably attracting? That was one of Maddow’s main points, and she used her media platform to elevate a state-level story that is undeniably of national interest whether you agree with Paul, Maddow, or neither of them.
Now her point is borne out – Paul’s people in Kentucky responded to a non-violent act by the opposition with violence. Not overreaction, but by restraining someone against the floor BEFORE kicking her in the head.
As a lifetime Ron-Paul-watcher who realized in 2008 that most Democrats don’t know and don’t want to know how insane the Pauls really are, I find it likely that if Maddow had not pressed this point, we would not have heard diddly about this campaign in the national press up until now.

I could not believe it when I encountered Democrat after Democrat who watched the Republican primary debates in 2008 and said that Ron Paul was refreshing or consistent or whatever the hell, presumably because he opposed all our international wars.

Apparently what it takes to be a modern teabagger is a complete lack of historical understanding, no concept of how government actually works, a total sense of entitlement, and a set of balls bigger than the state of Texas:
ummm, if no one has pointed it out yet, bullies, thugs and the modern teabaggers are suffering from a total lack of balls, not gigantic ones. It’s THE reason they are bullies, total lack of brains or balls. It’s the reason they need 4 very large men to surround 1 small woman, wrestle her to the ground and stomp on her for daring to hold a sign and disagree with their candidate.
It takes more balls to actually listen to another point of view and hold a discussion than it does to stomp someone into the ground for disagreeing.

Her bias is upfront. She admits to producing her show from the DFH POV, that said, it had little to no detriment on her integrity or her show’s amazing reporting. I don’t get the smug thing at all. It may come from consistantly being more knowledgeable on the facts than any of your ideological opposites. The vid with her and the Joe Miller supporters responding with skull-shattering idiocy to her very simple questions, if that’s smug, I’ll eat my hat. Is this guy a 5 year old?
Maturity wise? Yes, yes he is.

@morzer #143: That’s actually what I was referring to (and, of course, Ginny Thomas’ phone call to Anita Hill). Sorry, I omitted the heavy snark tag.

@morzer: It saddens me to think that “What’s the frequency, Kenneth?” is now passe.
Comrade Darkness
If she’d been a male teabagger carrying heat, Profitt would have of course assumed his presence would help ensure the safety of their candidate and led him to the front of the crowd.
Right?
tkogrumpy
@morzer: You too! I was almost ashamed to admit it. Almost.

@beltane: Jeez, where have I heard that before. Take a deep breathe and look at what you typed. then deliver your most sincere apology.

@sukabi:
The problem is that the two sides, normal humans and teatards see things from opposite sides. You (we actually) think it takes more balls to actually think and use logic and reason in your daily life and they think it is only a matter of force. People who think are nerds, geeks, dweebs, people who take charge by force will win! And nothing is more important than winning. It’s neanderthal, immature, reactionary, but it sure isn’t actual logical thought. And to not be overrun by the stupid one just has to be a little smarter. Fortunately that’s not difficult. Getting out of the way of their boots is a little harder. But we out number them, we are as a group much smarter, we just have to work together. The common good is better than the never reached perfect.

@Paula:
The weekly standard. Isn’t that a brand of toilet paper?

OK, first understand that I am a leftist, a “liberal,” and a great hater of the vicious imbecility that is American right-wing political thinking.
Now. If I were attending some Democratic politician’s event, and let’s say a right-wing tea-tard woman came rushing up spouting some kind of inanity, and a couple of the Democratic candidate’s campaign workers jumped her and threw her on the ground and stepped on her head, then though I am a physical coward, I would feel obliged to run over and punch those campaign workers in the head as hard and as many times as I could. They’re on my team and she’s on the bad guys’ team, but I would have to. You can’t just stand there and watch something like that and do nothing and look in the mirror and call yourself a man. It’s the code.
What I ‘m curious about is, were there no Rand Paul supporters, not even a one, who were men to the very basic level of knowing the code? That was a rhetorical question, you ball-less libertarian cowards; the videotaped facts make it obvious that there was not one man in the entire crowd.

John wasn’t talking about the courage it takes for four men to hold on and assault one woman.
He’s talking about the chutzpah it takes to go in front of a camera and opine that she needs to apologize to you.
