The Whores Hustle and the Hustlers Whore

By mistermix October 26th, 2010

This seems like a reasonable explanation why a Muslim-hating “anti-terrorist” organization had to transfer the $3.4 million it raked in last year to a for-profit company:

But a spokesman for Emerson’s company said the actions were legal and designed to protect workers there from death threats.

“It’s all done for security reasons,” said Ray Locker, a spokesman for SAE Productions.

And I didn’t know that “Berger” was a Muslim name:

“Basically, you have a nonprofit acting as a front organization, and all that money going to a for-profit,” said Ken Berger, president of Charity Navigator, a nonprofit watchdog group. “It’s wrong. This is off the charts.”

This is from an excellent Nashville Tennessean package on the anti-Muslim movement in middle Tennessee.

    Where there’s ignorance and fear, there’s money to be made. Emerson’s just another all-American capitalist hero taking advantage of a market opportunity.

    I thought people were suffering. If you can afford hate, you can afford to know better.

    What gets me is that these fuckers want the world to end and Jeebus to come save the day for them (and of course, torture and kill everyone who ain’t one of them).

    From the article you linked to:

    According to that belief, American Christians have a religious duty to protect the state of Israel. When Israel expands, they believe, Muslims in Iran and Iraq will be forced out of their homes to make way. Then the second coming of Jesus can begin.

    “The reason America exists is to partner with Israel, to protect Israel,” said the Rev. Darrel Whaley, pastor of Kingdom Ministries Worship Center and head of a Protestant ministers group opposed to the mosque in Murfreesboro.

    No wonder they were fine with invading Iraq and want to go after Iran. If I had to make a choice (or else!) and could only choose between the apocalyptic death cult of Christianity or Islam, I would choose Islam.

    Without hesitating. At least the muslims want to stay alive.

    Naah, I’d go whole hog and become a raging muslim. Then I’d go find Malkin and make her wear a tightly wrapped Hefty bag over her head.

    MSNBC uses Emerson as one their terrorism experts. The guy is a bigtime sleazeball.

    It’s not surprising there are crazies out there who make money spreading fear, hate and paranoia. Always have been, always will be.

    What is surprising is that these clowns are considered “respectable” in our current culture and that people like Emerson and Gaffney appear on our TVs and are treated as serious thinkers instead of loons.

    That is what really bothers me.

    This has been Emerson’s racket for decades.

    Emerson gained prominence in the early ‘90s. He published books, wrote articles, produced a documentary, won awards and was frequently quoted. The media, Capitol Hill and scholars paid attention. “I respect his research. He gets to people who were at the events,” says Jeffrey T. Richelson, author of A Century of Spies.

    As Emerson’s fame mounted, so did criticism. Emerson’s book, The Fall of Pan Am 103, was chastised by the Columbia Journalism Review, which noted in July 1990 that passages “bear a striking resemblance, in both substance and style” to reports in the Post-Standard of Syracuse, N.Y. Reporters from the Syracuse newspaper told this writer that they cornered Emerson at an Investigative Reporters and Editors conference and forced an apology.

    A New York Times review (5/19/91) of his 1991 book Terrorist chided that it was “marred by factual errors…and by a pervasive anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian bias.” His 1994 PBS video, Jihad in America (11/94), was faulted for bigotry and misrepresentations—veteran reporter Robert Friedman (Nation, 5/15/95) accused Emerson of “creating mass hysteria against American Arabs.”

    Emerson was wrong when he initially pointed to Yugoslavians as suspects in the World Trade Center bombing (CNN, 3/2/93). He was wrong when he said on CNBC (8/23/96) that “it was a bomb that brought down TWA Flight 800.”

    Emerson’s most notorious gaffe was his claim that the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing showed “a Middle Eastern trait” because it “was done with the intent to inflict as many casualties as possible.” (CBS News, 4/19/95) Afterward, news organizations appeared less interested in Emerson’s pronouncements. A CBS contract expired and wasn’t renewed. Emerson had been a regular source and occasional writer for the Washington Post; his name doesn’t turn up once in Post archives after January 1, 1996. USA Today mentioned Emerson a dozen times before September 1996, none after.

    That was a very short-lived reversal of Emerson’s fortunes, as he has become another go-to ‘expert’ since 9/11.

  11. 11 El Cid Says:

    @mai naem: Steven Emerson: Martyr.

    Sugg also contested Emerson’s claims that he was targeted for assassination because of his film and challenged the accuracy of his 1998 congressional testimony. In a 1998 article for the Weekly Planet, Sugg said that when he queried FBI spokesman John Russell regarding Emerson’s claims about being notified by the agency of a hit squad that was targeting him and the possibility of being put in the witness protection program, Russell responded: “You pushed the right button asking about your friend Steve Emerson. We’ve never given any thought to putting him in the witness protection program.” Regarding whether there was any truth to the claims of an assassination squad, Russell said: “No, none at all” (Weekly Planet, May 21, 1998).

    Also, too:

    More recently, in October 2006, the FoxNews program Hannity & Colmes featured Emerson during a show highlighting the purported connections between leftists in the United States and Islamic extremists. Asked whether there was a “quasi-alliance” between radical Islamists and radical left academics, Emerson said: “You’re 100 percent right“.(FoxNews, October 13, 2006).

    Can we file racketeering charges against these money launderers now? By Jebus’ beard we did it ti Al Capone we can do it to these 503c4’s.

  13. 13 Cain Says:

    @El Cid:

    Asked whether there was a “quasi-alliance” between radical Islamists and radical left academics, Emerson said: “You’re 100 percent right“.

    This is what makes me so angry about our political debates. 24 hour news channels are ruining our country. They need to be brought to heel and I don’t know how to do that. I’m hoping that the 25% of the crazies in this country will finally be flat broke supporting the Palins, the CNNs, the Fox News with their money.

    Nobody should be watching this shit anymore. I’m happy to turn the goddam news channel off. Go read a damn book.
