Just watched the opening segment of the Daily Show, and as cynical as I’ve become, Mr. Campbell Brown Dan Senor’s performance shocked me.
Wow.

Damn, we were just talking about her in the Open Thread. Who does she shill for now? We were wondering.
mr. whipple
Wha happen?
Jim, Foolish Literalist
I’ll take a wild guess and say he’s talking about how the YMMA in Lower Manhattan is taking a huge shit on the graves of the 9/11 martyrs, Harry Truman, and Betsy Ross.
Joe Max
Well, she does get some props for grilling Grandpa McCain’s campaign flunky about choosing Palin. It could be said it cost Brown her job (or accelerated her leaving anyway.)
Kay Shawn
Please, please, please, let that Daily Show segment go viral! Send it to any and everyone you know who watches Fox! Beyond excellent, it was a public service.
salacious crumb
fuck Campbell Brown. she was nothing but a hack at CNN who never took a stand on any controversial issue. anybody falling in love with a war advocate (and we are talking a trumped up war on false charges) has to have their sanity and integrity questioned. All that ill gotten wealth that Dan Senor has is blood money stolen in Iraq. No surprise that he is still doing what he is doing
Martin
Boo. I have to wait 2 ½ hours to see it.
You Don't Say
He was a guest, right? How about the rest of the Fox-employed crew? Evil or stupid? I vote for both.
Three-nineteen
Fox & Friends spent a large segment this morning demonizing The Kingdom Foundation, a Saudi group that has in the past given money to the Burlington Coat Factory mosque’s imam. They didn’t mention the name of the guy who runs the group. Turns out the evil Saudi guy who runs The Kingdom Foundation is the same Saudi guy who owns part of Newscorp (Rupert Murdoch’s company which owns Fox News).
Just for the record, I am definitely Team Evil.
TR
@Kay Shawn:
Oh it will. This was amazing.
For those who missed it, Senor was on with the crew of the Fox & Friends dipshit factory, making ominous dark hints about one of the sources of funding for the Park51 project … who turns out to be the 2nd largest stock owner in Fox News.
I thought nothing could surprise me with these assholes, but as John said, this was a level of shamelessness like I’ve never seen before.
Anton Sirius
Stewart’s been en fuego for a while now, but that segment was note fucking perfect.
You Don't Say
Our national security depends on never watching Fox News. It’s our duty.
TR
@You Don’t Say:
Doocy and Kilmeade are just plain stupid.
Perino is stupid — remember, this is a WH press secretary who never heard of the Bay of Pigs — but I think she might also have shades of evil.
Carlson is just evil. As the Daily Show noted in an earlier segment, she’s a classically trained musician who got a degree from Stanford … and yet she plays stupid on the show to advance narratives she knows are untrue. Pure, distilled evil.
Pete Guither
Have we eliminated the possibility that they play for both teams simultaneously?
Violet
@TR:
Oh, she’s evil. She’s not Queen Bee Mean Girl like Sarah Palin, she’s more of Assistant Mean Girl. She’s the one who does the dirty work. Wouldn’t turn my back on her for a second.
adolphus
TR: She also studied at Oxford, so she is tainted with effete European Elitism.
And according to the Wiki, one of her nannies was Michele Bachman. Odd that….
edit: And her stupid act not only advances political narratives, but also traditional gender and hair color roles. She isn’t a real bimbo, she just plays one on TV.
sherifffruitfly
I have no idea wtf you’re talking about.
Cain
@Violet:
On the other hand, she does seem to have a nice backside, so if she turned around and showed her backside of evil^tm I might notice purely because I can point and say “EVIIIIIIIIIIL!”

No cable so can’t watch TDS, but all of this shit that is piling up hate fast as we can spoof it, is for one purpose only, and that is to run Obama out of the WH. It may appear to be unrelated, or at least with plausible deniability, but that is the purpose of it all. The NYC Mosque, the Muslim “seed” bullshit, birthers, etc////// And it will likely work, my sense is Obama is more and more just letting his freak flag fly when he doesn’t really need to. Like with his pro Mosque declaration, how he talks to the firebaggers, through Gibbs and others. He is getting it from all sides, and the media, ie recent Modo screes, and or about any media meme saying he ain’t doing it right with playing politics, right after the last column of why doesn’t Obama take a stand. Sad to see, but not really unexpected.
It may be too much to ask this country with it’s deeply disturbing history on race and religion to see anything, over time, other than black faces against the national white backdrop of the White House. It is really just beginning and by the time 2012 rolls around, it won’t matter a whit what was accomplished, just git that ni##ger out of there.
This is a real hi tech lynching.
TuiMel
@TR:
Ever since Colbert referred to Kilmeade as “not Steve Doocy,” that is how I think of him: the pale shadow of Stupid Steve.

“No cable so can’t watch TDS, but all of this shit that is piling up hate fast as we can spoof it, is for one purpose only, and that is to run Obama out of the WH. ”
The main purpose is to stir up voters for November.
Suffern ACE
At this point, I think Fox is just rubbing faces in the muck because it can. Seriously. The funding for the Mosque is “alleged.” Past funding – for what? Oh, and he is profiting from the fact that you are watching this…Radical Madras Builder.
If Rudy G. Didn’t take his money, that must be a sign that he wasn’t trustworthy. He’s like the Log Cabin Republican endorsement. Turning it down increases the popularity for certain politicians.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
I’m frankly a little surprised that Uncle Rupert is letting this go on, given the Saudi prince’s stake in his company. I’ve always thought money came first for him, politics second and only because Republican politics facilitated more profits.
General Stuck
@Jon H:
That is the immediate purpose, but the main purpose is to stop Obama. Contrary to what the pro left tells us about O fail, the wingers are motivated because they think he hasn’t failed, and is a threat to their world view, at least domestically. I am guessing they would not be near as bold and hysterical, if the first black president was a flop. The fact that he has passed something like universal health care after a 100 years of them blocking it, on top of being black, is more than they can bear. They can’t vote on him till 2012, but they can come closer to stopping him with big pickups in congress, and maybe even capturing the House. And if that happens, it will make the Clinton witchhunt seem like tea with the freaking Queen.
mr. whipple
@General Stuck:
Of course. They’re using this stuff to whip up the base, hoping to take back the house, which will be spun 24/7 as a repudiation of Obama. They’ll immediately start the investigative hearings, yadda yadda.
Presidential politics is calibrated down to the precinct level. By 2012, especially if the economy is still brutal and the GOP has a viable candidate, it ain’t so hard to switch a few voters with this crap and also make sure your own voters show up.
Redshift
@You Don’t Say: As amusing as that part of the segment was, it is always important to remember that “stupid or evil” is not actually an either/or question.
Suffern ACE
@General Stuck: I forget that part. For many of the right wing, they actually think that progressives have won! That in 2008, progressives won unfairly, not because the voters grew tired of war and McCain acted sporadically. They think that they lost because McCain didn’t run this campaign in the right way.
I sometimes wonder, though, if part of this Anti-muslim campaign isn’t to either turn the young people away from politics or to convince enough social liberals that Conservatives can appear progressive on social issues this cycle while being bigoted about it. That’s why you run out “Sharia means stoning gays and throwing acid on women and Democrats don’t care” meme over and over again. There are so many voters who can potentially be turned out by this.

@Redshift: Word.
The brilliant architect Robert Venturi wrote in his famous manifesto “Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture” about how the postmodern condition is characterized not by purity or clarity, but instead by what he called “both/and”. As in architecture, so in life.
Now, matoko_chan isn’t evil.

@TuiMel: I believe it’s “Brown Haired Guy Who’s Not Steve Doocy”
Davis X. Machina
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Wahabis hate Sufis. Isn’t the fellow planning the YMMA linked to Sufism?
Comrade Luke
@General Stuck:
Totally agree.

@General Stuck:
Yes, yes and yes.

Did anyone see Rachel’s take down of the “anti-incumbent” narrative tonight? It was so awesome.
KCinDC
I still remember when Steve Doocy was on WRC Channel 4 news here in DC. He was the “reporter” who handled the goofy stories—the ones about dogs doing silly tricks and people breaking (non-sports-related) world records and such. He was stupid then, and he’s stupid now.
TuiMel
@themann1086:
I think you are right. Oh well, either version disses Kilmeade, and that cracks me up.
asiangrrlMN
@TR: She’s also a former Miss America from Minnesota. Bee-yatch. I loathe her for the reasons you mentioned. She’s not stupid at all, and yet, she acts like the typical airhead.
I will have to check out TDS clip tomorrow.
Mark S.
@Davis X. Machina:
That’s too complex for Fox viewers. They’re all just Mooslums.
RadioOne
I loved the “stupid or evil” question over the Fox News and Friends segment with the Daily Show correspondents. I’ve been leaning “evil” ever since the right insisted on calling Obama an Arab during the 2008 election, and I’m sorta surprised that the Daily Show hasn’t caught on yet, since they still seem to insist to lean on “stupid”.

Word, and such.

@Uriel: Damnit- I was trying to edit that comment, and I guess I ran out of time- the thing I was going to add was:
But I think it’s important to point out one other possibility: Team “we’re evil, and stupid as well- but we count on the fact that you’re even more stupid than we are.”
My money’s on that team.

Stewart’s takedown was priceless. And the Moment of Zen at the end was THE BEST.
Pat
Was he hawking a book or something? That’s the only time they play nice.
tesslibrarian
The Al Franken show used to make it clear, when the stupid v. evil question would arise, that you don’t really have to take a side. They aren’t mutually exclusive, and in fact, tend to reinforce one another.
Zuzu's Petals
@TR:
Actually, Waleed isn’t even a source of funding for the 51Park project. It’s way more indirect than that:

@tesslibrarian:
Yes. For those who are interested, I have provided the answer to the Evil/Stupid question in convenient Venn diagram form here.
Feel free to use if you’d like.
Lysana
@arguingwithsignposts:
Team Evil was the name for the duo who tried to kidnap the Pikachu that belonged to Ash during the first season of Pokemon. They were incompetents. So that Venn diagram just may be redundant.
Yes, I watched Pokemon. Do not judge me.
Alwhite
Evil or stupid? How about ‘terrorist’? Define “terrorist organization”, here is mine: A group devoted to causing fear in a population, to undermine confidence in the social order through fear and mistrust and to cause irrational panic.
Does that not define FAUX News?

I can’t believe this piece isn’t getting more traction. It should be required viewing. Even Huffpo choose to feature Stewart’s interview with Blagojevich on the front page over this. Unbelievable.
ChrisB
@Lysana: Team Evil or Team Rocket?
These things are important.
ChrisB
@arguingwithsignposts: I thought the two circles might have completely overlapped.
ChrisB
@RSA: Exactly. Hilarious.

@ChrisB:
Team Rocket’s rocking!

Huffington Post has been a downer and a ‘not to take seriously site’ and a major disappointment rolled into one for a while now, with its constant negative sensational headlines, puerile posts,dumping on Obama blogging, and inciting commenters to rage and ruction! Quite frankly it has reached a ‘national enquirer of the net’ status. No substance, just verbage for verbage sake.
P.S Used to spend a lot of time there,but now I breeze through in about 2 minutes tops. Ugh!
kenotic
I agree jazzgurl…HP used to be one of the first news sites that I checked in the morning…they were getting better a few months back, but now it’s back to “why does Obama suck?” every day. And when you’ve got Tony Blankely writing articles for your site, I probably don’t want to visit(and there are others that are just as bad…Froomkin’s really getting on my nerves, for example)
