Kyrgyzstan
Does anyone know what is going on in Kyrgyzstan? I simply haven’t been following it at all, but I see references in the foreign press more frequently, so I’m assuming things are heating up. It is a region I know simply nothing about. Any background or anyone with knowledge care to discuss?

Everyone Is Hitler
It turns out that Hitler didn’t, contra wingnut lore, charm his way to power with dazzling speeches. I’m not sure if I am going to believe these excellent pieces of facts and evidence until I have a chance to cross-reference them with Jonah Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism.

This is Why You Never Respond to Crazy People
Instapundit barnacle and all-around insane person Ann Althouse, who yesterday explicitly asked if I was a member of Journolist, now seems miffed that I responded that no, I am not in fact nor ever was a member. Althouse, 26 June: The Journolisters — including Cole? — must be desperately trying to discipline each other not [...]

Voodoo Child
I don’t get the whole “conservative kid” thing: The only male teacher I had might as well have been castrated. His voice was soft, his gestures were feminine, he didn’t know how to run a class and he had to rely on female assistant teachers to control the children. And, of course, the female teachers [...]

I hope this is true…
Laura Rozen—one of the decent reporters working at the dubious Politico—reports on the latest complaints concerning Barack Obama and how he approaches Israel and Middle East policy (emphasis added): Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren is reported to have told Israeli diplomats that the U.S. and Israel are experiencing a “tectonic rift,” not [...]

Byrd Ill
Not looking good for the senior Senator from West Virginia: Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) has been admitted to a Washington-area hospital and is in “seriously ill” condition, his office said in a news release Sunday. The statement said that Byrd, 92, “was admitted to the hospital late last week suffering from what was believed to [...]

Yet Another Teabagger Senate Primary Challenger
Dino Rossi, who’s been showing some decent numbers against Patti Murray in Washington, has a Palin-endorsed teabagger opponent who’s getting some national press. I’m sure this guy doesn’t have much of a chance in Washington’s jungle primary, but as an ex-Redskin who’s also gotten the Rand Paul imprimatur, Clint Didier will probably make Rossi waste [...]

It Will Never End
This is depressing: CIA Director Leon Panetta said Sunday that the war in Afghanistan had “serious problems,” but the U.S.-led mission was making progress. “It’s harder, it’s slower than I think anyone anticipated,” said Panetta, the nation’s top intelligence officer, in a rare media interview with the ABC program “This Week.” He cited governance problems, [...]

The Fruits of Shunning
Yesterday’s post about Obama “shunning” the DC press corpse for the G8 started a discussion in the comments about whether this was a wise strategy for the White House. I don’t know the long-term answer to that, but short-term, no harm done. Here’s the WSJ story, written in party by Elizabeth Williamson, the Journal reporter [...]

CBS Sunday Morning
You know that scene in Reno 911 the movie when Lt. Dangle blew up a whale on the beach? That’s sort of what it feels like happened in my kitchen. Enjoy the show. I’m going to be boiling my kitchen counters and floor.

Debtors’ prisons
People underestimate just how much the glibertarian right likes the idea of a return to 18th century mores. Because if you put people in jail for having debts (via David Dayden), then people wouldn’t go into debt and the FREE MARKET would take care of the rest. And, no, he’s not talking about AIG and [...]

I am trying to upgrade my pathetic techskillz. This is Demon Kishkan, who is the perfect image of a Maine Coon except that she’s tiny, not even seven pounds at peak fighting trim. Do not let the catzen pose fool you—she is called Demon for a reason. What’s on the schedule for a summer Sunday?

Some Thoughts on Saturday’s Games 6/26/10
The sloppiness of South Korea’s defense on Uruguay’s first goal was only slightly more amazing than the sloppiness of Uruguay’s defense on South Korea’s goal: in the former the Koreans were watching the ball, in the latter, the Uruguayans bunched in the middle leaving at least two Korean’s unmarked. Luis Suarez’s second goal was a [...]
