PR Fail

Talk about tone deaf:

At least nine fishermen hired by BP to use their boats to help with oil cleanup in the Gulf of Mexico have been hospitalized with serious heath problems, including one who “busted his skull” after collapsing on a dock.

When asked about this clear pattern of illnesses of workers who come in contact BP’s oil and chemical dispersants, BP CEO Tony Hayward callously dismissed the health problems as “food poisoning.”

“I’m sure they were genuinely ill, but whether it was anything to do with dispersants and oil, whether it was food poisoning or some other reason for them being ill,” said Hayward.

Yeah, Hayward. They probably shouldn’t have eaten that Gulf Coast shrimp.

Leave him alone. He just wants this thing capped so he can get his life back. He should teach us a lesson about capitalism and go Galt already.

I’m guessing you were pronanlu shaking with rage when you wrote this post. I know I was, just reading it.

Hayward’s got a fucking tar ball for a heart. There’s not a place in hell hot enough for callous bastards like him.

I’m not really going to be happy until I see that fucking asshole out on a boat personally skimming up the oil. Preferably using some of his millions to soak it up.

And on his breaks let’s force feed him some oil soaked oysters.

    Fucking douchebag.

Slightly off-topic, but the bots are cutting through one of the pipes.

On topic: Let these BP jokers talk and talk and talk. Let them run their flippin’ mouths all day, every day. The more they say shit like this, the better.

when I first heard he said the top kill had a 70% chance of success, figured there had to be a mistake after what I have been reading on the oil drum,
then I read it and still could not believe it..so he goes on to say food poisoning with the workers..and the last I read is he is also saying there are no plumes of oil, that it is all at the surface..

silly me, I thought he was only arrogant..also too

    @Hunter Gathers:
Saw that on NBC Nightly News tonight. Unbelievable. I’m sure he does want his life back, but hey, there are a lot of people on the Gulf coast who want their jobs back, their health back, their beaches back and so forth. Not to mention the wildlife who want their marshes and seawater back. Sheesh.

    What is with this asshole?

Here he is showing that he’s better at remote diagnosis than even Bill Frist (!); the other day he was pretending to be a better oceanographer than a half dozen independent researchers, claiming “There aren’t any plumes;” most of the time he just acts ignorant and arrogant (the Gulf’s “a big ocean”). Is he in competition with the Goldman Sachs guys and the bankers for Worst Capitalist Stereotype or something?

Hey, the rich have frequently bewailed the peasants’ eating habits. Serfs them right if they won’t stick to bread.

(Seriously, does BP have a PR department or did they all hang themselves on Day 2?)

For what its worth, ABC reported this evening that AG Holder has headed for the area to talk to Federal prosecutors. The have also told BP to retain all documents and destroy nothing.

Last time I remember major execs actually doing (very short) jail time for corrupt business activity, as opposed to stealing (Madoff) or lying to the Feds (Martha Stewart) was when JFK’s justice dept prosecuted major steel company executives for price-fixing and collusion.

    Loooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnng freakin’ time ago!

yeah, like they’ll pretend to be ill from this….

Hayward is just begging for an accident to happen…to him.

I’m not fond of the DIAF phrase, but in this case, I’ll make an exception. DIAF and then continue to burn in hell.

And since I haven’t been around all day, hope everyone had a very pleasant Memorial Day.

He’s really a gift to the ages, isn’t he? There will not be mere chapters, there will be tomes exploiting this man as a counterexample of good practice. On multiple subjects no less.

“Safety first,” said Andrew Gowers, a BP spokesman. “We build in hurricane preparedness in operations, and that requires us to take the necessary precautions.”

BP should just stop talking. They’re scaring people.

Making blanket statements of denial is sure to come back and slap him on the face. The odds are that facts yet to be determined may prove him wrong and then he just looks like a apologist.
