Not really a hockey fan but living in Chicago, I believe I am legally required to at least feign interest.
So.
“Go Blackhawks!”
That should cover my obligations for the year.

Since my Red Wings got booted out, I am shamelessly rooting for my current hometown team the Flyers. Hope Bouche has better luck than Leighton. West Div teams are unreal.

NHL? Who gives two shits? It’s Memorial Day and it was 92 degrees at 3 o’clock.
Hockey season’s over.

I kid, I kid. It’s so long until football comes back.

It’s hard to care about hockey when the sunset looks like this.

Can I talk about something non-hockey open-thready? Are one of you guys like a really, really, really kick-ass person? Because I talked up a certain good cause, and that same night, someone anonymously donated ten THOUSAND dollars. Now, statistically speaking, that’s probably not likely to have come from my little second hand plea and more likely someone who knew the family. But the magical thing is, it’s at least possible that it was someone in the B-J family, and that just makes me want to hug all of you. Whoever gave it, it just makes me very happy.
Now I’ll let you go back to your pucking.

I’m too distraught by my Rays getting on a losing streak. GAAAAAHH NOOOOOOOOOOOO

@jibeaux:
Sorry jibeaux it wasn’t me. I don’t have two nickels to donate much less 10k o dead presidents. But gratz on getting the donation… what cause was it for again?

My Blackhawks in 5, bitches!

The Hawks are the shit. I watched game one at the bar in chi, and have never heard a place so loud during a sporting event. Screaming through the entire national anthem, got to love it.

Hockey is not a sport. It’s a drinking game. /snark

Argh, there’s a nasty Flutie for Congress ad right below the first post on this site. For those that don’t know, Flutie is the teabagger running against my Congressman, Henry Waxman (D, CA-30).

@PaulW:
A teacher who is trying to adopt a toddler with Down’s syndrome from Eastern Europe. The little girl is in an orphanage, and at age four they are transferred to mental institutions, where they reportedly spend the majority of their day tied to beds, and they frequently die. It’s completely heartbreaking. The family needs at least $24k for the expenses of the adoption.
There are some things that just stick in my head and don’t give me much peace until I feel like I’ve done something, even if I’m really pretty helpless. The oil leak is one of them. Trying to picture all the oil just flowing ceaselessly for the past 40 days and continuing on for months literally keeps me from sleeping. And knowing what becomes of those kids is another one. So thanks to all of you for listening.

@BruinKid: The last time he was opposed, Waxman got over 70% of the vote. Be happy the teabagger’s money is buying tuna for Tunch.

President Obama gave his memorial day speech this evening at Andrews Air Force Base. Unfortunately the event in IL was rained out because the speech was good. Here’s the link.
Now back to the game.

“Yelled” at? C’mon now. ;-)
Helluva game, by the way.
ETA: Sure are a lotta hockey haters in this thread. Oy. Ya know, we’re running a wee tad late this season because of this little thing called the Olympics. And with my Habs out, I don’t much care for either punk team left in the final, either, but hockey is hockey, and it just doesn’t get any better than the Stanley Cup slog from start to finish. So nyahh.

@ajr22:
I absolutely adore the Chicago-style anthem, never heard anything like it before, and it’s been emotional the last two nights. I imagine it’s only a matter of time before the Malkin-Beck Wing start complaining about “the Chicago-style desecration of our beloved anthem.”
Let’s go Blackhawks! (ETA: Woooohoooo goal! ETA2: Wooooohoooo another goal! Gotta love the wrister!)
BruinKid - May 31, 2010 | 9:59 pm · Link
@MikeJ: Heh, I know. It’s still a bit annoying, but hey, if they want to give their ad money to John or Markos, I’m OK with that. :-)
But seeing his face was a bit nauseating, when he’s palling around with bigots like Tea Party Express leader Mark Williams, who referred to Muslims as worshipping a “monkey-god”.

Open thread even for non-sports? For the first time in my life I’m thinking about joining (whatever) Twitter, so I can emulate John Cole and tell off famous people who are driving me crazy. JC’s tweets are hilarious.
And my personal favorite:

Oh and not paying attention to hockey any more.

I don’t know how the anthem comes across on TV, but to be there in person at the United Center when it’s performed is absolutely spine-tingling.
After nearly 50 years since the Blackhawks last won the Cup, I really hope the Flyers can salvage one win at home this week so we can see Lord Stanley’s Cup hoisted next Sunday in Chicago!

Hey, whaddya know, there’s an NHL thread here in JC’s joint. Didn’t have a chance to post here last night because I was too busy watching the game here with a house full of relatives, and hollering and whistling out the front door back and forth with the house full of neighbors across the street.
After enduring years of NHL exile under the previous management, the Hawks are on the verge of making up for 1971 and 1973. I’ve been on the lookout all season long for a team that could beat these guys. Now there’s only one other team still playing, and I’m still looking. Wowza.
@jackmac: I’m with you; I’d like to see the series wrap up at home next weekend too. My across-the-street friend is already planning her game-watching party. Except for the fact that we rowdy grade-school moms all have to be up and functional enough the following morning to get the kids to school, it’d be the perfect scenario.
