To add an exclamation point to John’s earlier post I thought Ezra’s tweet was spot on:
Too bad the size of your protest only counts if it is a Conservative protest. After all, who remembers those anti-war protests from 7 years ago in the weeks leading up to shock and oops.
I love the smell of conservative FAIL in the evening. This should be a good night. Still, I have compassion and find myself wondering what Jane and Grover are drinking as they watch the vote and dine on crow.
Cheers

Honestly? It’s either gonna be absinthe or hemlock. I’m leaning more towards the green wormwood drink, and I’m talking about the stuff from France that’ll REALLY get you tanked and high as a kite. Oh and the whole brain damage side effect is just a myth, I promise!
Crap, someone pinch me, is America about to make PROGRESS for the first time in 30 years?

As insane as the teabaggers have been about HCR, multiply it by a million for how crazy they’ll be for the next round of immigration reform. It will be so racist and ugly that goopers will never again get more than 10% of the Hispanic vote.

“As long as I gaze on Waterloo Sunset I am in paradise” has got to be the lyric of the hour.

Hopefully, this is soon. Some behavior is so ridiculous and obnoxious that trust simply can’t be re-established. HCR has added a few more folks to the “ignore” pile…I’m sure the PUMA crowd is freaking out even more than Hamsher. No one reads them, that’s all.

I have no idea what is going on in Jane’s head, but Grover is probably seeing nothing but dollar signs. Norquist lives and breathes the controversy. He’ll spend the entire rest of his life consulting on how to overturn HCR.
Reagen made his bones protesting LBJ’s Medicare, after all. Somewhere out there is the next Ronald Reagen. No doubt. Until then, Democratic victory is the Republican con-man’s wet dream. Just one more thing to get paid to scream at. I’ll bet you Rush, Hannity, and Beck are revising their contracts as we speak.

You see, unlike NARAL and Planned Parenthood — who Jane long ago tossed on that towering heap of corporateselloutinsurancepharmawhoretrolls — evidently NOW still retains its virginal progressive purity.
For NOW. Tee hee.

@GeeYourHairSmellsTerrific: The really hilarious part is that Erick is apparently familiar enough with the spending habits of his readers that he’s suggesting that they send …plastic coins.
He refers his readers to this page, entitled ‘Generic Silver Coins’, with the description ‘These plastic coins depict generic coin-like illustrations’.
Guess Erick is too cheap to scrounge up some pre-1965 quarters or something.

Two things you can watch for tomorrow: (1) healthcare stocks will plummet (so get your shorts in early); and (2) all manner of OMG declarations from the insurance industry, followed by massive denials of claims because they have to “assess what’s in the new law,” and they can’t possibly pay for your surgery now. (You know, like when the coffee crop fails in Guatemala and the price of all produce goes up the next day).
Trying to regulate the insurance industry is like trying to regulate organized crime. I have hope though, because eventually they did nail Al Capone on tax evasion.

I love watching the Repubs parade all of their “physicians” up to speak against this “terrible bill”. The only thing worse than a bunch of lawyers running the government is a bunch of physicians involved. Two groups who have never had the opportunity to experience real work.

@maye: No doubt, you’re right in the short term. Except that the insurers got pretty much everything they wanted in this legislation, and the long-term prospects of insurers without HCR was in fact not particularly good. So if the stocks do drop tomorrow, it will probably be a good buy opportunity.

Someone Sherman was talking about bankruptcy from medical bills. O’Reilly said he didn’t think he should have to pay for those folks. Sherman then asked O’Reilly if he wanted to live in a society in which sick people were thrown out on the street if they did not have an insurance card. O’Reilly said No, then Sherman said we now HAVE an entitlement because no one can be turned away from the emergency rooms.
Next up, Bachmann. Who O’Reilly promises will have a rebuttal to Sherman.

What I love is, if you read Atrios or even Rude Pundit, even though they support HCR, they can’t like, articulate a good reason why.
I really, truly hope you guys are right about this. And I hope that that totally cute Ezra (Twilight of Interest Groups) Klein isn’t really a Dem lapdog, and that shoveling taxpayer money to the insurance companies while having our bankrupt states keep them on the up and up isn’t really an unfathomably horrible precedent, and that Republicans won’t make hay campaigning against this this fall, and that Glenzilla and Taibbi are just shrill, and that everything is all that gawd damn Jane Hamsher’s fault while nothing could possibly be Rahm’s fault, and that Obama was powerless to do anything other than cut secret deals with Pharma.
But, I really believe you’ve been had.
Honestly, I think you’re as scared as the teabaggers. You’re not scared of the same things, of course, but you see America devolving into a modern aristocracy, and you’re scared. And you so want to believe that someone in government is on your side, you’ll overlook any sell-out to corporate interests or affront to abortion rights as long as Democrats are doing it.
I don’t expect perfection. I just don’t see how this is worth it.

You’re going to have to explain to me how winning majority votes on HCR in both houses of Congress 17 months after easily winning a national election equals “doesn’t care about democracy”. Or perhaps you’re just so delusional you think your minority should rule, which doesn’t sound much like democracy to me.

Hey, I didn’t know Bachmann supported removal of the anti-trust exemption? She was just promoting that to O’Reilly as a better answer than this bill. According to her, the worst thing about the bill will be the hiring of more IRS folks to monitor that taxpayers have health insurance.
