Today’s Dana Milbank emission makes fun of Code Red, portrays Pelosi as tough and effective, and poo-poohs the notion that real Americans will care about the procedural deals of HCR passage.
Rather than believing that this blind pig suddenly found an ear of corn, my guess is that the Dick Whisperer put his finger to the wind and sensed that HCR is going to pass. Since he always wants to sit at the cool kids’ table in the cafeteria, he’s started to lay the foundation for the inevitable “I saw it coming” piece that will allow him to play reindeer games with the Democrats.
Of course, anybody who relies on Dana Milbank’s view of what’s going to happen in DC is a fool, so keep those calls and letters coming.

Love your prose Mistermix, ’emission’ cracked me up.
Good morning all, here we go again.
valdivia
love the title too mistermix.
I have to confess that I once laughed heartily at one of his columns (the dead parrot one about the Hilary campaign) but in general I totally distrust the guy. I think you are right that this should be one more signal of where things are going. Will keep calling til they pass this.
Anyone here attending the immigration rally on sunday in dc? I have to be in nyc that day and really wish I could change my plans to be here for it. Hope we get a big big turnout.

Hardly kind, but probably accurate given past, er, emissions.

This behavior works for some voters, too. They want to be on the side that’s winning.
That’s all, just the side that’s winning.

Dana Milbank is useless as a journalist, but as a Village native he gives us a good idea of how the Villagers experience the world. Just like the crocuses blooming are a sign that spring is on its way, Milbank’s column is a sign that the Republicans are about to receive a huge body blow from the hands of our President. Milbank is making sure he won’t be hit by any of the subsequent flailing.
beltane
@WereBear: That is why Alan Grayson is leading among Republican primary voters in his district. He always appears to be the aggressor, which is hugely attractive for many voters.
Ross
The narrative of Dana Milbank’s career, properly told, resembles a story out of Shakespeare.
WereBear
@beltane: I know, it’s so bizarre!
I’m a fan of his approach, and if it peels support off the opposition, so much the better.
Blunt truth seems to be an instrument that can break through the corporate media screen, and it’s a personal favorite of mine.
Alex S.
I have to agree with everyone else. Milbank is trying to be on the side of the winners. Obama and the Democrats (and about 30 million uninsured people) will win.
Mike E
C’mon, give Dana a break–his occupation is going the way of the lamplighter and butterchurner.

@beltane:
I read that one reason some R’s in Grayson’s district like him is that he carries a copy of the Constitution around everywhere & wants the Constitution to be a year long required course in schools. That made me laugh thinking about the reaction of R parents who howl about our government not following the Constitution as they see it when their kids come home from school & tell them they have it all wrong.
RedKitten
That’s sort of eerie — after having not seen it since it first came out, I actually watched that movie just this past Saturday night.
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!

Good morning.
mistermix certainly is an earlybird, isn’t he?
I just visited fivethirtyeight. He seems to think that there will be an HCR bill passed, although it won’t be as spiffy as we would like.
We will see.
By the way, my sick friend that I was worried about and just about gave up on is now showing some signs of improvement. Small amounts of progress but very real. Life goes on.

Can’t stand Milbank, but I’m going to take this as a good sign. No counting chickens though. I’ll be calling as soon as I’ve had my breakfast.

@Mike Kay:
must tell you that always puts a smile on my face.
The Grand Panjandrum
Love the title. No one could have known that the Dick Whisperer would pivot on a dime once he figured out which way the wind was blowing. But kid who always dresses in funny costumes has got to stay a frontrunner or the cool kids will just mock him.
Top o’ the mornin’ to ya. Here’s an internet classic to start off your St Paddy’s Day festivities.

1) Thank you for reading that for me mistermix. I would not have liked to do it myself.
2) May I remind everyone to make sure they call their Representative even if their Representative is one of the solid votes! Because: a) we can’t always know for sure and b) they deserve a supportive voice in what is sure to be a few days of full-on wingnuttery.

@The Grand Panjandrum: My favorite musical pairing of the day so far has got to be that my favorite radio station, Chicago’s WXRT, is holding its annual Shamrock-n-roll concert, and one of the headlining acts is… (wait for it)… Matisyahu.
Hmm.

I just read MIlbank’s piece. Two thoughts:
1)
That makes me sad, because the real Captain America would be for HCR. Sorry, Teabaggers–Cap’s a liberal. He was commissioned under FDR, for Chrissakes!
2)Milbank’s writing is fucking awful.It reads like the diary of a snarky teenage girl. Christ, someone gets paid to write that? What a life! I’d peddle whatever bullshit I had to keep that cushy job, too.

Re: Grayson, I got this link right here at BJ so you might’ve seen it, but I don’t think I’ve ever read anything that made me want to hit that ‘contribute’ button so much, and that’s including some very worthy charities.
To be honest with you, the psychology that some people have of “he’s really standing up for what he believes, he believes what he says, he says what he thinks” etc. strikes me as terribly odd if you’re not in agreement with the person, but I’ve decided that some people honestly just don’t have strong feelings about issues and they’re looking for character and leadership. If you have the courage of your convictions, well, they’ll vote for you.

They must be getting a lot of phone calls. I just called Barbara Lee’s office twice (10am EDT), and I was redirected to the voicemail, which in turn wouldn’t let me leave a message in the overflowing mailbox.
This is in Berkeley, where the main concern would be that Lee would vote against it from the left. Thus far, she hasn’t said anything.

@R-Jud: I take it you’ll be joining me in wearing red on Friday for St. Joseph’s Day, then. :D
In all seriousness, though, I think St. Patrick’s Day is fun, because I get a kick out of the Irish and their culture. Great beer, beautiful country, fantastic music, and outstandingly friendly and hospitable people.

I just put the corned beef in the crockpot, I made the Black and Tan Brownies last night, and we’re pulling out the “Father Ted” DVDs to watch tonight. (Last year was a Quiet Man year, but this feels like a “Father Ted” year.) Hey, I’m a quarter Irish and I married a half-Irish guy, so it counts!
