Dude, not on St. Patrick’s Day.
Maybe on Gary Gygax’s birthday.

@DougJ: Heh. I used to work for the guy who played Tenser in Gygax’s original games.

I am watching Countdown and I am really puzzled about Lawrence O’donnell stand on health care. Why is he presenting it as a defeat to progressives and win for Rahm? I do not get it.

“I showered with Rahm and all I got was this shitty blog.”
Woah, I am so totally out of the loop.
Elisabeth - March 17, 2010 | 11:24 pm · Link
@Anya:
Because progressives like Kucinich caved; because Rahm thought it was okay to take them for granted.
Whatever.

He worked on it and the 90s and couldn’t get it done.

Congressman Lipinski, one of the Stupak group, is saying he may not be able to vote yes because of abortion despite the fact that the Senate bill restricts abortion plenty.
I met this guy when he was a failed political scientist who couldn’t get a university position. He didn’t seem that with it then. His fallback to not getting an academic job was to run for daddy’s congressional seat. So now we have the progeny in there who probably never had a day worrying about his own health care who would be ok denying it to others and all because he couldn’t hack it on the job market.

@Anya:
How much Jamo had he had to drink?
I hate that guy.

I called Driehaus (twice – local and DC offices) earlier this week. I know he’s a Stupak guy, but I think he wants to vote for HCR. The staffers I spoke to seemed to be supportive of HCR in general.
But.
fukit.
I’d rather have a Republican prick like Chabot as my Representative, if Driehaus votes against this. At least then I’d not feel bad hating the guy.
If Driehaus votes against it, I surely won’t vote for him. I can’t vote for Chabot, but I will sit out.
This district is pretty evenly split. It’s gonna be tough for Driehaus, either way.
I hope he’ll do the right thing. If you live in Oh-1, please let him know how you feel.

love this.

@Elisabeth: he sounded like a firebagger.
@MikeJ: That makes sense.
Anya - March 17, 2010 | 11:42 pm · Link
@DougJ: I dislike him so much. He is such a smug ass. I even do not enjoy his yellfest with wingers.
OT, I have such a crush on Ezra.

favorite Yes tune. @Anya:
This whole thing with progressives v Rahm, or whoever the days dem boogyman is, is just utterly mystifying to me. And getting more confusing every day. Sub-tribal factions in the dem party have always been there I suppose, only now we have the internet married somewhat with cable news shows so we get it verbalized play by play.
This can only be good news for republicans, as long as it stays fixated on revolving dem villains and counter villains, or some such.
Fuck it, I am going to brush my dogs teeth.

Way to not show the drummer through over 8 minutes of video. Only one quick shot while his head was down. I never did figure out if it was Bill Bruford or Alan White (or White trying to stay true to Bruford’s original style).

I’m so loving the changing tag lines today. It’s the little things, ya know.
Anya - March 18, 2010 | 12:20 am · Link
@General Egali Tarian Stuck: I don’t mind the sub-tribal factions or ideological disagreements. We are not republicans. We are a party of ideas not grievances. What I hate about 2010 sub-tribal warfare is the purity nonsense and scorched earth tacktics to achieve that unattainable purity goal.
OT: you gotta read this Matt Yglesias takedown of “Ramesh Ponnuru and Rich Lowry’s absurd article on American exceptionalism.”

I love Yes, but ask yourself. Would a female musician as flat out ugly as Steve Howe or Rick Wakeman ever be allowed near a record contract?

@J. Michael Neal:
Which genre are we talking about? But for Yes-level rock/pop, this must be rhetorical.

@J. Michael Neal: Janis Joplin.

Isn’t that a young Tim Geitner on vocals/tambourine? Yes, I say. And cowbell, I might add.

Bleah! Not the D&D thing again. (Well, OK, I’ll very much give you “The Gates of Delirium.”)
As the local nut at the Yes newsgroup said once: “The Beatles sang of Pepperland; Yes are from Pepperland.” Pepperland just isn’t really a good site for a D&D campaign—Yes are really the ultimate hippie band.
