    John Cole @ top

the madness is year round here.

So is this Sparta or is Tunch the Cheshire cat?

    @jibeaux:

When did the tagline change? I just noticed it now.

Not sure if I’m up to filling out a bracket this year or not. All I know is that it’s Final Four or Bust for the Blue and Gold! Anything less will be a crushing disappointment, considering this has possibly been the best Mountaineer team we’ve had in my lifetime.

  6. Sentient Puddle - March 17, 2010 | 12:45 pm · Link

Of all the places where I can find out that the tagline has changed, it’s in an NCAA thread. Nice.

When I get a free moment, I’ll do the 63 coin flips and come up with my bracket. Just so that the rest of you can say “Well at least I didn’t score the least!”

Winner get anything besides the clear pride of victory, and bragging rights? Maybe some tunch gear?

    Obama’s got Kansas.

  9. Punchy - March 17, 2010 | 12:56 pm · Link

Are we going to get banned for a week if we pick against Chuggins and his UWV team?

  10. The Grand Panjandrum - March 17, 2010 | 12:56 pm · Link

OK, Cole I picked my Lobos to beat your Mountaineers in the Sweet 16. As for the rest of my picks, well I went with most of the safe choices but I did pick to go out in the second round and not make the Sweet 16. That is about as close to daring as I got in my picks.

    Love the tagline, John! LOL.

@4tehlulz: yep. Probably Lehigh v. Robert Morris in the title game.

After looking at Obama’s tournament picks he has Marquette beating my Lobos in the second round AND he has the Mountaineers going all the way to the Round of Eight. Why did I vote for him? Just so he could dis my team? Black Jimmy Carter indeed! I am outraged! KILL THE BILL!

  19. Morbo - March 17, 2010 | 1:17 pm · Link

Eh, guess I’ll go a little more upset aggressive than the LGM entry given the rules.

  20. Capri - March 17, 2010 | 1:40 pm · Link

Hey, what about the women? West Virginia is a 3 seed, good for at least one game.

I started a Balloon Juice Group here:

I have just submitted my random bracket of total random. You may now observe and laugh at how absurd it is (assuming it is absurd, I don’t know either way).

EDIT: Or I guess you’ll have to wait until festivities begin to see what madness you’re up against.

  23. gnomedad - March 17, 2010 | 2:16 pm · Link

Why is the title still unclickable? Is this policy or just FYWP?

  24. burnspbesq - March 17, 2010 | 2:31 pm · Link

    @Capri:

63 teams are playing for the right to get whacked by UConn.

I hate the selection committee for setting up a potential Duke – Texas game. We still love Coach G. It will be difficult to root against her. If it turns out to be West Virginia instead of Texas, we are going to comprehensively kill their asses, and after it happens, I will take my banning like a man.

    @burnspbesq:

UConn has to go down (get your heads out of the gutter!).

UCLA Bruin Grad here; 88 game win streak has to be protected.

  26. The Dangerman - March 17, 2010 | 2:38 pm · Link

Made my picks this morning; like Obama, I have Kansas in both my brackets.

I have WVU going to the Elite 8, IIRC.

Every year, I think it could be the year for a 16 to take out a 1 (don’t laugh; Princeton had Georgetown dead to rights in the late 80’s). I expect a couple of close 1/16’s at least (Syracuse/Vermont and Duke/whoever the fuck they are playing).

  27. anonymouse - March 17, 2010 | 2:59 pm · Link

in. Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse and A&M.

  28. madmommy - March 17, 2010 | 3:19 pm · Link

Huzzah! Made my picks, got Kansas, Kansas St, Duke and W. Virginia in the Final Four, and just for shits and giggles, WV and Kansas in the Final with the Jayhawks winning. Not that it matters much, because, as usual, my brackets will be blown to hell and back by Friday afternoon.

The women’s bracket is just who’s next in line to be steamrollered by UConn. Parity, anyone?

  29. eric - March 17, 2010 | 3:30 pm · Link

two things: it is possible that Texas/Wake will be the worst coached game in the history of the NCAA, notwithstanding any prior game involving Dale Brown.

second, i acutally think WV can win the whole thing, even to the point of picking them against my own UL Cards, whose presence that far in the tourney is modestly wishful thinking.

To be contrarian, Kansas has the easiest draw of any of the number ones. the 4/5 teams are verrrrry weak and the 8/9 teams are average and they get G’Town or OSU after those two teams have beat each other up. I would rather be kansas than Duke.

Jeebus, O has my final 4 and the final with Kentucky v Kansas. He picked Kansas and so did I before changing it this morning. If they won it, I’d never forgive myself for betting agin my Cats./

  32. eric - March 17, 2010 | 3:47 pm · Link

Holy crap, 162 entries! I kept checking it and seeing only the first ten, figured everyone was distracted by HCR. This should be fun.

  34. Splitting Image - March 17, 2010 | 3:53 pm · Link

I suppose I’ll pick North Carolina, Arizona, UCLA, and Connecticut for the final four as usual.

    Wait, what did you say?

  35. General Egali Tarian Stuck - March 17, 2010 | 3:54 pm · Link

@Bootlegger: Wow, what did we have last year, maybe 40 or 50. Wonder if this extrapolates to the growth in BJ readership.

A second finding of major violations would make UK eligible for the death penalty. Ask a SMU football fan what that’s like. Ashley Judd will become a Duke fan if that happens (FSM willing).

I’m in. I didn’t need this info to get in, though. Should I be worried? I have a super-secret formula for picking my teams, and I am guaranteed to win. Or, at least, provide y’all with a variety of chuckles. See if you can figure out my brackets!

@Capri: I will do this one, too! Again, using my super-secret formula for picking seeds.

  38. chris - March 17, 2010 | 4:09 pm · Link

Anybody have any idea how to get Yahoo to use a bracket you’ve submitted for another group already? I have about six groups I want to join, but don’t want to go through the tedium six different times….

  39. General Egali Tarian Stuck - March 17, 2010 | 4:09 pm · Link

@burnspbesq: Catch me if you can.

And who will perfume Duke’s droppings so their shit don’t stank? Or, maybe it’s just natural that way. teehee

  40. Sentient Puddle - March 17, 2010 | 4:12 pm · Link

OK, two of you jokers named your brackets “Consistently Wrong Since 2002”. At least one of you should update your taglines.

  41. eric - March 17, 2010 | 4:12 pm · Link

@General Egali Tarian Stuck: the NCAA has no problem catching the school, it is Calipari that hasn’t gotten caught (punished) yet. Though, truth be told, as much as SMU may have deserved the death penalty, how did Baylor avoid it????

OK, Cole I picked my Lobos to beat your Mountaineers in the Sweet 16.

    Marquette will beat both!

  44. eric - March 17, 2010 | 4:41 pm · Link

@General Egali Tarian Stuck: at least at the end of the day Pitino is only gonna screw one fan and not an entire state’s worth ;)

    Hell, why not?

  46. burnspbesq - March 17, 2010 | 7:57 pm · Link

    @General Egali Tarian Stuck:

If all you ever recruit are kids from stable, two-parent middle-class households—in other words, kids who might belong at Duke even if they weren’t elite athletes—you typically don’t get into the kinds of scrapes that have tarnished every school where Calipari has ever coached.

Who does everyone have in their brackets this year to make
it to the final four?? WIth so many changes through-out the
Top 10, Top 25 and even the #1 seed in the nation anything
is possible.. I can’t wait for the madness to begin So
pumped!!

    My Final Four:

    Kansas

    Pittsburgh

    Kentucky

    Villanova

____________

    KANSAS winning it all…

For a full bracket with predictions click
    http://www.lionsdenu.com/ncaa-.....s-bracket/

So who do you have? Who is your final four?

  48. General Egali Tarian Stuck - March 17, 2010 | 9:22 pm · Link

@burnspbesq: The NCAA does thorough investigations and haven’t caught Calipiri doing wrong. These things, as with KY in the early 90’s usually come about from wayward boosters and not coaches. . The NCAA rules have long been too stringent and poor kids are likely more vulnerable to being offered shiny things. I don’t blame them for that, nor Calipiri, until he is actually caught doing something wrong.

And fwiw, I also came from an unstable single parent home.

I’ll be lucky to win one game, but it was fun to fill out my brackets.

  50. burnspbesq - March 17, 2010 | 10:25 pm · Link

    @Tim Alvine:

On the men’s side, Syracuse, Georgetown, Duke, and New Mexico.

On the women’s side, UConn, Stanford, Duke, and Notre Dame.

  51. burnspbesq - March 17, 2010 | 10:28 pm · Link

Obama seriously lacks respect for Duke. Reggie Love needs to have a few words with his boss.

  52. ChrisB - March 17, 2010 | 10:43 pm · Link

@Tim Alvine: Men’s final four: Chalk except for Baylor.

  53. Splitting Image - March 18, 2010 | 12:33 am · Link

OK. I think I filled out my bracket correctly. Let the game commence.

Now given my track record on these things, I will finish in the 67th percentile, depending on how many people join. Unfortunately, that means most of my picks for the final four are bound to fall out pretty early. I apologize in advance to anyone who picked the same teams.
