A Pierogie In Every Pot, A Folding Chair In Front Of Every Home

Good luck, Dave! If any of you happen to live in or near Swissvale-8, don’t forget to vote.

In honor of Citizens United, Balloon-Juice, Inc would like to hear Dave’s opponents address persistent rumors that they are closet Ravens fans who helped cancel Firefly.

The pierogi and folding chairs sounds like my street.

This smells of the work of ACORN.

    And probably Rahm.

Hold on, will he also be offering around that beer that he’s brewing?

    Good luck, Dave!

I don’t have a dog in this race.

Change “pierogie” to “golumpki” and he’ll have my vote.

I’d peek on 538 for his chances, but it seems to have suddenly disappeared. Nate forget to pay his bills, or something else happen?

(and yes, this was a lame attempt to make something OT sound on-topic)

If a Pittsburgh politician is in favor of folding chairs to hold parking spaces, he or she will win the race in a landslide. Probably getting 100% of the vote. People have been pulling guns and getting into fist fights over such parking spaces, especially since the snow has made parking even more of a premium than usual. And the folding chairs truly are a great Pittsburgh tradition.

    The pierogies are just gravy.

Everyone saw this protester at the tea parties, right?

I hope for their sake that they didn’t fuck up.

    OT:

This, amplified properly on every channel, by every Dem interviewed, could sway the elections in Nov.

This could be the single dumbest, most tone-deaf shit I’ve ever heard a Republican make. Play this on a commercial in NV, FL, CA, and Michigan, and watch the indys go Democrat again.

    Stunning, IMO.

@Punchy: Wowie zowie. That is something else. This is probably the first time I’ve wished that Tom Delay were still in office—because right now he gets off on the “disgruntled ex-employee” clause, and if anyone brings it up to a fellow Republican, that fellow Republican will get to sound wise and In Touch with Real Americans by comparison.

This is just why we need Dave Anderson as precinct captain of Swissvale-8!

@geg6: I think it is a tradition in most big cities. It’s done in Philadelphia too. I am sure folding chairs aren’t the only things used. Orange traffic cones. Trash cans. Old, ratty rocking chairs(No, I am not kidding).

@Punchy: Absolutely. I hope this guy makes the rounds of all the pundit shows plus Jay Leno and repeats this exact thing, along with his rants about how bad unemployment benefits are, hopefully while insisting that this is what all good Republicans believe. And he can do an encore grand-tour performance of his schtick about three weeks before the election.

@Calvin Jones and the 13th Apostle: Yep. I’ve seen the tradition in Boston (where I grew up) and Chicago (where I am now). Every once in a while, someone tries to enforce the laws against it and the screaming is near-deafening.

There are also the stories of what happens when someone parks in “someone else’s” space. The responses range from amusing to frightening (slashed tires are not unheard of, for instance).

@Calvin Jones and the 13th Apostle: Sure, people do it all the time here in Chicago. And they mark their spots with all kinds of stuff. Basically, people just use something that’s stable, large enough to be obvious, impervious to the elements, and junky enough so that if it gets stolen or run over, it’s no real loss.

Yowch. And I thought you were the nice one.

@Punchy: Nice to see Inmate #6825 is turning it up to 12. I’m sure his “clarification” will make it clear he was only referring to certain people who are unemployed. [Wink wink cough darkies cough]

    @Punchy:

Delay is only echoing a sentiment that’s already popular with lots of conservative legislators. Steve Benen lists a bunch of them in this post.

Bot alert: Obama in PA speaking about HCR. Should be starting any minute. CSpan.

    Why are Democrats always late?

Hey here’s something from the WAPO with the usual level of disingenous right wing reasoning.

Jackson Diehl complains that Obama doesn’t have “friends” abroad, and uses as a typical example Nicolas Sarkozy who complained about Obama’s disarmament proposal saying “We live in a real world”.

Diehl concludes that there’s some mystery about this: The paradox here is that Obama remains hugely popular abroad…

What Diehl doesn’t mention of course is this:
PARIS —French President Nicolas Sarkozy suffered fresh poll woes at the weekend, with his popularity hitting new lows and his political allies forecast to suffer heavy defeat at this month’s local elections.

A CSA opinion poll in Le Parisien daily showed Sarkozy’s approval rating down 4 points in a month at 36 percent – the lowest level since he won power in 2007.

People in France hate Sarkozy, and they like Obama.

    What’s the mystery?

Argh. Why can’t I edit this one? (Above) I actually posted it to the wrong thread. But mostly screwed up the formatting.

    @mr. whipple:

Thanks for that reminder. Obama is throwing some really specific, devastating punches against the insurance industry.

@Calvin Jones and the 13th Apostle:

Yes, but the pierogies make it very Pittsburgh. Add some anecdotes about Kennywood and a Steeler hat and you have a politician that Pittsburgh would vote for in droves.

Thank you all for your support. I’ll happily endorse any anti-Raven’s smear, but I’ll hold back on the Firefly commentary.
