Perky sex kitten Puritan librarian can only take you so far, my dear. At some point, you’re going to have to demonstrate some mental ability besides mouthing epithets and talking points other people have programmed into you.

That would actually require a double standard, with the higher standard placed on a woman (Palin).

I mean, it's not like Bush ever progressed beyond the "perky sex kitten" phase. When did he "demonstrate some mental ability" or show that he could do anything beyond "mouthing epithets and talking points." And, my friend, McCain is no better.

Maybe you got mixed up. We're talking about the Republican Party. But your point is well taken. It's what I was wondering above. Won't the Republicans eventually expect more of her than the ridiculous part she's played so far?

Lie, lie, lie, accuse, abuse, lie, lie, insult, accuse, abuse, lie, lie, and lie. Wink, wink, perky, perky, wink, toss of the head, wink, perky, perky. And repeat.

Given that we're talking about the modern Republican Party, the answer may be a simple "No."

Actually, considering that Palin runs so much on her sex appeal to self-proclaimed "conservative men" (Rich Lowry's "starburst" speech providing more Freudian slips than a Victoria's Secret catalog), it will be quite interesting to see how Palin's "charm" will, um, *age* over the next four...or eight years.

And for gossakes, get some actual ethical behavior if you're so "christian" as you claim to be....

Don’t you remember how Saddam Hussein was poised to infringe First Amendment rights in your hometown until Bush bravely ordered the invasion of Iraq?

The only people who spend time talking about how the troops are supposedly defending our right to protest, are the people busy squashing our rights to protest.

The GOP has not, in any real way, respected the troops. They cut funding for programs that support the troops once they come home from our ill-advised adventures in nation building, pump up useless military contracts for crap the troops don't need (at the expense of stuff they do), and enrich contractors and mercenaries instead of devoting money to the training, retention and welfare of real soldiers. Not to mention getting the troops in harms way needlessly by starting an unnecessary war - and then using the troops as political footballs because pulling out of Iraq would mean admitting the GOP screwed the pooch. Yeah, they support the troops.

Just like "pro-life" ends at birth for Republicans, supporting the troops ends when the troops go to war. Fuck 'em if they die over there or come back wounded, is the Republican motto, apparently.

OK, we have no evidence that Palin is intelligent, knowledgeable, or has any integrity. She obviously is willing to use her office in illegitimate ways. She gave one nasty, but well-received speech to the Republican convention, followed that up with incredibly bad performances with Gibson and Couric, and then faked her way through the debate with Biden.

Listening to her stump speech/treason indictment of Obama, I find her amazingly boring -- her presentation skills are not much better than those of her running mate, my friends.

She's in her mid-forties and already her fans are demanding that her photos be retouched -- so how long before the looks go completely? On what exactly are the predictions of her great political future based? What, she's an asshole and most Republicans are assholes? Is that really enough? Being an asshole doesn't exactly make her stand out among her fellow politicians -- Republican or Democratic.

From everything I've seen, this is a woman of very limited knowledge, intellect, and judgment, with mediocre speaking skills, no debate skills (you have to know something to debate), and no apparent potential for growth.

I think she's dragging the McCain ticket down and if they lose, it's hard for me to believe that Republicans will be dumb enough to turn the party's future over to her. I hope I'm wrong, because I don't think she'll wear well at all on moderates or conservative Democrats. Which leaves her with her Right Wing religious base and the likelihood of losing one election after another.

I know the American people are dumb, but we may have found the upper limit of their stupidity.

ZOMG, David Frum is having a whiny fit on Rachel's show and accusing her of being negative and unserious.

He was basically very upset that the Republicans are all falling apart and wouldn't talk about what he was there to talk about, which was his criticisms of the McCain campaign. He wanted to talk about how mean Rachel was being to Republicans. He seemed very sad.

Slightly O/T (this thread is tagged "clown shoes," after all):

Susan UnPC at No Quarter links to a HOWARD STERN video making fun of Obama voters, and recommends that everyone "share it with your friends." Even though Stern is, you know, so sexist, but whatever he makes fun of Nobama, so watch! Hillary would be so proud.

@Svensker #11:

And as far as that goes, I don’t see how any of the "troops" in the last long while have defended any Americans’ freedoms. They’re not doing that in Iraq, didn’t in Kuwait, didn’t in Vietnam, didn’t in Korea. Sure, most of the kids who went to any of those places may have thought they had noble reasons for what they were doing, and I don’t envy them getting their butts shot at (or off) in service to the military. But they have been serving and protecting the U.S. Government, not the citizens, and not the citizens’ freedoms (what few of those are left).

In a completely routine corporate meeting near the Veterans Day following 9/11 (what, November 2002?), a coworker, ex-military, exhorted us, a bunch of high-tech Symbolic Analysts, to remember the troops -- and I'll never forget this -- who are "fighting for our freedom."

For me, the disconnect was obvious: fighting for our freedom? Like, al-Qaeda in Afghanistan is in any conditional at all to make me speak Arabic and submit to Shari'a Law? The last time this was an actual believable threat was about fifteen minutes in 1941...

It's World War II rhetoric, transferred to a frightened nation, and made to do threadbare duty for a ridiculous Middle Eastern adventurism.

Dear god, what a fraud...

I firmly believe that she has to take care of him. She’s literally with him EVERYWHERE. Pay attention to anytime he’s anywhere, she’s 2 feet behind. I think she’s there to take care of him, in one way or another.

What you don't see is the iron rolling pin she always carries in case he tries to grope his "partner and soul mate."

@JGabriel (cool name, BTW):

Palin’s parents were teachers. That means the kids don’t need to finish school because they can see education from their house.

LOL x 10

Some of the posts here are just brilliant -- laughed out loud for a good while reading some of the scathing wit! Seriously!

Now I understand why the Republicans won the last two elections - all the brains on the Democratic front were busy coming out with the best jokes instead of attending hate rallies and killing abortion clinic doctors! For God's sake, where are your priorities? Grab your guns and share the love! Hate, baby, hate!
