Go Steelers!

The Steelers travel to Cincy today to take on the resurgent Bengals in the second AFC Wild Card Game.

Go Steelers!

*** Update ***

Game time, and I think I might throw up.

*** Update ***

Palmer hurt, and now both teams are real chippy.

*** Update ***

Bengals winning 10-0. I don’t like how this is going so far. Our D looks terrible, our offense is false starting every play.

*** Update ***

Dumbest. Penalty. Ever.

17-7 because of you, Polamalu.

*** Update ***

17-14 at the half. 3rd glass of wine for John.

*** Update ***

31-17, Steelers leading. Starting to feel a little more relaxed. Could be the score. Could be the wine.

*** Update ***

Steelers win. I get to go through this agony again next week vs. the Colts.

If nothing else, we can agree on this today.

    Go Steelers!

I think the only people who are rooting for the Bengals are Bronco fans.

    My bad.

My “retirement fund” is weighted heavily toward the idea of Seattle in the Super Bowl, and this clouded my thinking.

Damned realignment, anyway ….. I have never gotten used to it.

PPGAZ- If it makes you feel any better, I still think the Steelers are in the AFC Central and the Penguins are still in the Patrick Division.

Man, this game is getting ugly fast. These refs better step up or someone is going to get killed out there.

Hey, Pooh, that’s how they make their money. (No, I’m quite serious.) Well, that and the spread.

Ok, the Bengals replaced their defense with USC’s for that drive.

Good news John – my husband just placed halftime bet on Steelers -6 in second half. He’s got a pretty good record, too.

I don’t care who wins this one. my colts have beaten everyone else in the afc already except denver, so it doesn’t matter who we play.

although, an eventual meeting with the pats is what we want. doesn’t matter to me if it’s next week or the week after.

    go colts!

Patriots at Broncos is gonna be a crazy good matchup.

The Steel Curtain will give it a mighty effort, but they won’t be playing John Kitna next week.

Take heart, Bengals fans. It could be worse.

    I know—I live in NYC.

  33. ppGaz - January 8, 2006 | 7:36 pm · Link

Impressive effort by the Steelers. I think they’d have won even if Palmer had not been hurt.

Because it’s so very easy. C’mon, the guy took ballroom dancing for god’s sake.

Yeah, but it wasn’t that. It sounded to me like it was a crack at his academics. He said it as if it’s a joke that all he did was take a ballroom dancing class, and no other classes. At least, that’s the way I took it. I assume that’s all that Leinart’s taking because he’s already earned his degree (a quick google search confirmed that), which isn’t rare for seniors, especially fifth year seniors.

I’m a U$C hater, but that comment, to me, sounded like someone taking a shot at someone else without knowing any of the facts. We’re not talking about Andy Katzenmoyer and his beginning golf and AIDS awareness classes when he was still an underclassman.

Man, that was an unnecessarily wacky game because of that Polamalu. First he throws the ball in someone’s face for the unsportsmanlike conduct and then he laterals after his (almost surely) game-ending interception? Someone needs to lower his dosage of whatever he’s on. Perhaps the hair gel is rotting his brain?

More importantly, next week I’m really torn on who to root for in the Skins (home team growing up) vs. Hawks (home team now) match. Argh.

If I had to bet, I’d say it’s Patriots vs. Colts in the Superbowl. The Patriots look unbeatable, yet again. Their grasp of the “basics” is unmatched now that everyone is healthy. Oh, and they can rock the trick plays (did you see the snap to the running back?) when they need to.

Oh, and the constant cutting to the knee blow-out? Reminds me of Theisman and LT. Ouch.

Man, that wine can hurt your head.

We Niner fans have found that consuming larges amounts of cheese with our wine helps ameliorate those unfortunate hangovers that wine can produce.

Great we won….but if we play like that next week we will be blown out of the water.

We got off to our usual slow playoff start. The D was a sieve and the O went 3 and out it’s first 2 times and didn’t do much the third. If this happens next week the game will be over by the end of the first quarter.

We have to start like gangbusters next week. We MUST get a solid lock on using a silent count next week or we are domed!

I have the Seahawks going to the Superbowl for sure. I am not sure about the Colts as they have a habit of collapsing. If the Colts make it there, they should take it all.

If I had to bet, I’d say it’s Patriots vs. Colts in the Superbowl.

Typo on my part. I meant Seahawks vs. Colts. As much as I like Patriots, I think the Colts are pretty spectacular this year, and I want to see the two #1s face off. Or maybe Patriots vs. Seahawks.

    From the estimable Wolcott:

As we await the kickoff to the Steelers-Bengals AFC wild card game (our friend Holly Brubach is a Steelers fan), I want to recommend Charles McCollester’s moving, impassioned essay from the Monthly Review, “The Glory and the Gutting: Steeler Nation and the Humiliation of Pittsburgh.”

The twelfth man has finally received the ultimate award – going to the Super Bowl (gotta love the ‘Hawks)! The best will be when Seattle takes the whole thing and silences all of the newscasters…
